“No room for the cat”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2011

I have just finished reading an earlier review by Redwards81 of this hotel and completely agree with his comments. He wrote that you could not have swung a cat in the room. I say that there was not room for the cat. With my wife and I and two suitcases in the room, it was absolutely full.
My specific comments were:
- It was not big enough for a double bed.
- The room was too hot but with the window open, the wind caused the window to rattle. I had to stuff paper between the two parts of the window to keep it quiet.
- There was no soap in the shower soap dispenser.
- Sitting on the toilet was very uncomfortable as my knee waqs pressing up against the shower.
- The towels had seen better days.
- Breakfast was a joke. The orange juice was served in a shot glass. One liitle swig and it was gone.
- The food was either toast/preserves or cooked. Somehow they found a container for the baked beans which was even smaller than the orange juice glass.
- We were the last ones down to brekfast so they started cleaning the other tables while we were still eating. The smell of detergent, mixed with the smell of food, was very unpleasant.
- The nearest car park was 5-10 minutes walk away.

For all of these pleasures, we paid £125 on checking in. We should not put up with this poor quality and poor value for money. I know it is central London but..........

Room Tip: If you want a good room, find another hotel.

No pets allowed. Rooms in these listed buildings are seldom large. Converting a traditional building with modern facilities does mean there is a trade off between character and space. All buildings in the area are similar and people often remark that rooms in London are small ! What people often forget, are are not aware of , is the trade off between room cost and room space. Double the room size is typical in the 4 Star Category where prices are more than double. Experience tells us that we have found the best compromise for most guests.

“No room to swing a cat”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2011

Had I taken a larger suitcase I would have been in trouble, because the room I was in was so so small. If you suffer from claustrophobia, stay away from this one. Even when I sat on the loo I was hard pressed against the radiator. Had it been on there would have been problems.
Although the receptionist was pleasant enough, the experience as a whole was dire. Breakfast time is between 07:30 and 10:00. I went down at 08:30, and it was clear the breakfast had been cooked for 07:30 and simply kept luke warm. And they wouldn't even give me an extra rasher of bacon to replace the sausage I asked them to leave off my plate. The small pot of beans you get couldn't have had more than 20 beans in it - pathetic. And you only get a shot glass of orange juice. Very poor value for money.

Room Tip: Avoid at all costs

“Reasonable!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2011

Stayed for one night on business, booking a room on short notice in Wimbledon fortnight (Bad idea!). Make sure you make note of the postcode, as the taxi driver got lost twice trying to find this place! Room was quite small and incredibly room with only one desk fan provided. Asked for further ventilation, which unfortunately never arrived! Bathroom was well appointed, however shower seemed to be either very hot or very cold! Breakfast was ok, nothing particularly special. I personally thought it was a little expensive, but I suppose that's what you get for booking late eh!? Would visit again if in a similar situation, otherwise would try elsewhere first!

“B&B Masquerading as a Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2011

This is definitely NOT what I would classify as a hotel and the three star rating an overstatement. On the plus side, clean, friendly staff and on a quiet street, close to bus and tube transportation. On the negative side, no lift, very small rooms, service charge for use of a credit card for payment, poor value for money. Breakfast is adequate to tide you over until lunch. Internet access charge of 10 pounds per 24 hours is excessive but the norm for London hotels.

Melita Management, Owner at Melita House Hotel, responded to this review

There is much confusion about B&B v Hotel. We are officially categorised as a Hotel . Historically , B&B implies having breakfast with the owner who also lives in the building. For practical purposes you cannot determine quality and value from the name. City Centre Hotel would be more accurate, but is not recognised by the official bodies in London ( although in Scotland they are ! ) . The previous reviewer has grasped this.

“3 Star Hotel that Actually Was!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2011

Many London hotels say they are 3 star and when you get there they are really two with terrible service, and if you can find a english speaking person good luck.
My room was very clean, and the breakfast service was excellent. Only 5 mins walk from Pimlico tube.
