“Nice hotel with great access to the Underground”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

Reasonable cost for a nice London hotel. Room was comfortable and clean. We had a family room that was large enough for two adults and two teens. The hotel is built from a block of victorian homes, so the rooms and corridors are attractively old, but nothing in the place is shabby. Great access to the Underground (about a half a block or so from the Gloucester Rd station). It's in a nice area and within walking distance to some nice restaurants.

Thank you Radisson Vanderbilt, we spent 3 unforgettable nights at your hotel. This is a very familiar hotel.Everyone knows you after a day and they remember you all the time. Everyone is smiling at you and they always help you, not just try to do that. The room was also excellent, master bed and a lot of space in the room. I really liked the design of the hotel, one of the ladies, Stacey at reception also explained us the history of the hotel.
The restaurant is also nice and they have good food, we had dinner 2 times there and the breakfast was super!! Summarizing everything I really advise you to stay in this hotel also if you want to stay near to the center of the city.

Dear Guest,

Firstly may I thank you for staying at Radisson Edwardian Vanderbilt Hotel and for sharing your experience with us on Trip advisor, it is very much appreciated!

I am so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. As you mentioned, we are very lucky indeed to be in such a convenient location, a short tube ride and your in the middle of the city centre, then when all the shopping and sight seeing is done, there is simply no better way of relaxing then to have a nice quiet drink in the lounge after a long day.

Once again, thank you for sharing such kind comments, I do hope we have the pleasure of welcoming you back to the hotel very soon. If I can be of any help or assist with any future reservations please do not hesitate to contact me via the hotel reception.

“tiny bathrooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

We stayed here with a group of friends, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was a bit chilly couldn't seem to get the heating to work although didn't get time to call anyone about it. bathroom tiny, had to sit on the toilet sideways as the sink and the proximity to the wall meant you couldn't get your legs out front, but it was clean and beds comfy enough. Overall good value for london if you can get a good rate as we did.

“Teeny tiny rooms in lovely old building”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

I stayed here in May 2011 for a whole week, having booked a single room. The first room they took me to appeared to be a cupboard with a single bed crammed into it - i was exhausted after a long flight and hauling my luggage through all the hallways and stairs but went down and asked for something bigger. later in the day i was able to move to another single room which had enough room to stand up in and get changed, but if i opened my suitcase on the floor it literally took up the entire room....i was told that was it for my type of booking.
for a whole 7 days this was a bit of a nightmare. i mentioned it on my customer survey afterwards and suddenly got a 'we weren't aware you had a problem, we would have moved you' email!!!
seriously, nobody would be able to stay comfortably for an entire week in those tiny single rooms.
i saw into the double and twin rooms, they were much more spacious (granted in London, rooms are always smallish).
the hotel itself is lovely and old; the corridors are a huge narrow maze and with one tiny elevator there are long waits to get up and down.
the location is fantastic, staff seemed nice and helpful (other than the room issue) and i didn't mind the age of the furnishings, seemed modern and functional.
overall i think it's a good hotel, just AVOID the single rooms.
(and i think it's safe to say, you can ignore all the positive reviews on this site by people with 1 review to their name - they all look highly suspicious to me....)

Room Tip: avoid single rooms at all cost

Thank you for staying at Radisson Edwardian Vanderbilt Hotel and for taking the time your feedback experience on Trip advisor.
The Vanderbilt is a listed two historical building, due to this some rooms may be smaller than others. Please accept my sincerest apologies for any inconvenience caused during your stay with us. However the history behind this hotel is what makes it so interesting and it’s unfortunate that the size of your room marred your experience with us. I do hope this doesn’t deter you from revisiting us as I am confident that we will be able to find a room that is much more comfortable and spacious for you to enjoy.
I do feel that I need to clarify that there is absolutely nothing suspicious about any of the reviews. We have never had any reason to question the honour and integrity of any member of the hotel team and pride ourselves on being an open and transparent organisation.

If I can be of any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact me directly via the hotel.

Kind Regards,
Neil Duffen

“A cold night in room G10”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

person found this review helpful

The staff were lovely and very attentive and it was a nice room. Sadly the heating and the towel rail were not working on the coldest night of the year and while the housekeeper brought a secondary heater immediatly it was inadequate for the room. There was a flimsy open vent in the low celing from which a cold breeze filtered directly onto the bed leading to rather a chilly uncomfortable night. The buffet breakfast was perfectly adequate aNd tasty.

Room Tip: Room G10 was quiet at rear of hotel and a resonable size. Has very large window and heating not work...
