“Very good value, clean and comfy with basic breakfast.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2011

We have stayed here 3 times as a family. The rooms are small, but clean and have everything necessary for enjoying the sights of London. The bathroom has a shower, basin and toilet, and is small. The beds are comfy. The staff are friendly. The prices are amazing for London! It is so close to the centre that you can walk if you like. It is also very close to the tube station. Breakfast is cereal, croissants, rolls, jams, tea and coffee.. just fine! We had a small fridge, a microwave and tea and coffee making facilities.

“Good location friendly staff - tired room - tiny bathroom”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 December 2010

Pros:
Staff were friendly and helpful and the location is excellent (a couple of minutes walk to Lancaster Gate tube station). The room was reasonably clean.

Cons: You get the impression you’re Gulliver in Lilliput. The bathroom was the smallest I’ve ever seen, the room was small even by London standards and the bed was worn out.
The breakfast is the absolute minimum, bread and jam + instant coffee.

You can do better (even in London) for the price.

“great place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2010

I booked in advance for 3 nights to enjoy London again.
This proved to be the best place for me this time.

Comfortable, surprisingly spacious room in the basement, with tea/coffee making and a microwave (unfortunately no fridge available) and with breakfast included .. it was nice. Bathroom facilities were more than adequate. My room looked out onto a VERY tiny courtyard, but it was tidy and gave me light and sun. Pleasant lass on the desk when I arrived, and she even took my suitcase down the few narrow stairs to the room without me asking. All others at the desk over next few days acknowledged me with a smile or a word each time I passed through their office. That is a great asset..

One downer - the TV was very small.

Yes, I would stay there again, but would request a small fridge and larger TV!!

THANX.....

“Great location, clean, cheap hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2010

I don't really understand one of the points brought up by a previous reviewer, when he said the hotel is not close to the center. I wonder what he/she calls by "a center". The hotel is located in just a minutes walk from either the paddington station, or the hyde park. the tube station (lancaster gate) is in minutes walk, too. and walking leisurely in a very nice area you can reach the oxford street by foot without any problem. it's THE central london, what else would you want from the location?
Also, the price the hotel offers is really great. I've spent hours on tripadvisor looking for a decent hotel prior to our visit. I wanted the hotel to be good located, clean and decent, and... cheap (well, tight budget, u know). there was not much choice (well-reviewed middle-price hotels had no available rooms to offer, and cheap ones left did not gather nice reviews). and suddenly i found the oxford hotel. well, i had my doubts, yes. but i decided to risk it and made a reservation.
We've arrived to the hotel to find a friendly receptionist, who gave up our key. the stairs are a bit of trouble (it's difficult to get a suitcase up to the third floor). the room was small, as well as a bathroom. but it's clean, with a tv set. the additional plus is a microwave. it proved very useful when we bought some food and prepared it in our room in the evenings. breakfast was really basic- with choice of cereals, bread/croisants, butter/jam selection, juice (the hotel should find more decent juice to offer, cause it's terrible), tea, coffee, and toasts. Very basic, but not bad for me/my sister who just had a quick snack in the early mornings and were out for the whole day (and you can always find something to grab along the way!) overall, if u're looking for a cheap, clean hotel in a good quiet location, here's one! And I'd definitely stay there again on my next visits to London.

“Location is great but some beds need replacement”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2010

This hotel was recommended by a friend and we were not expecting anything other than a clean, quiet, centrally located place to sleep that was not very expensive. In all aspects the Oxford hotel met those needs. However, our bathroom was a retrofit into a closet and the only way to comfortably use the shower was to drape the shower curtain so that it included the toilet so that we had elbow room to wash. One of the beds in our room (RM 14) had a sway back in the middle which we rigged by putting blankets under the mattress and I have recomended to the owner's relative that this bed be replaced. Indeed we used the comforters under the bottom sheets for added cushioning on both beds. The breakfast was acceptable (rolls, buns, cream cheese, jams) but would be improved by using fresher breads and offering drip coffee rather than instant. For those not used to small breakfasts, there is an excellent cafe next door where you could augment your meal if you were inclined. We appreciated the real coffee at the cafe. If you have mobility problems, this is not a hotel for you. The staircase to the breakfast room in the basement was almost as steep as a ladder and the stairs to the rooms were only slightly less steep. If we return, we will book into a three person room overlooking the street so that we have more room and a larger bathroom.
