An excellent location, close to trains, tubes and buses. One of the open top bus tours stops virtually outside too though didn't use it. I had read the reviews before I went so wasn't surprised to find the lift was still out of order. I also went with an open mind and was prepared for the hotel being tired but was still disappointed with what I found.
Good reception staff and nice looking reception but it goes downhill from there. Breakfast room is compact and queues often develop. Staff again very nice. Breakfast is either continental (cereal plus slice of ham and plastic cheese square) or cooked. The latter has a £2 supplement. I had to ask for more coffee and orange juice though extra toast was offered each time. On the last day, there were no staff in to serve breakfast. There had been some snow in the area (not much compared with what other parts of the UK get I would add) and we were told that staff had not been able to get in as the buses and tube were not running. I had already been on my smart phone checking buses, tubes and trains as we were travelling north later the same day. Admittedly there were some problems but everything was running albeit with some bus replacement services. We checked out and went round the corner to McDonalds - their staff had made it in without any difficulty!
The room was spacious enough but signs of previous water leaks evident on the walls above the window and above the TV. The bathroom was ok - shower over the bath but as there was no shower curtain, it almost forces you to have a bath. No good for water conservation. I also noted that the towels were changed daily even though I placed them back on the rail - another waste of water and electricity when not actually necessary.
I had booked this as a rail/hotel package so will be contacting the company with similar comments and suggesting that the hotel is removed from their list or at the very least marked as no more than a 2 star hotel.
