“Great location to be close enough to main london but away from hussle and bustle”

Very nice hotel and It was great to be out of central london and the transport links or either busses or trains was a 5 minute walk from the hotel, it was so easy. The hotel room was small but vey comfy and the room was very nicely decorated. We were on the ground floor but no disrumption from staff when preparing breakfast. We had a continential breakfast with alot of choice. The free parking was very useful and we will be staying at this hotel again.

“A good experience”

Overall we had a good experience at Anchor Hotel, a small family run guesthouse located in a quiet lane just 5 minutes from the Golder Green Tube station (from there the tourists can also profit by a double decker bus which goes until Trafalgar Square). The staff is nice and helpful and we also appreciated the vegetarian-continental breakfast, even if the room assigned to us was a bit too small.

“A room full of issues.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 July 2010

In June, 2010 my wife and I stayed at this hotel and we had a room with an en suite but we were very disappointed with the accommodation. I wonder why a room with so many issues would be let in the first place if they want to have a good reputation. First the good points. The staff tried very hard to please and be helpful. Included in the price we had Wi-Fi, breakfast, which was ok and car parking, but don’t turn up with a big car. The room had twin beds which were comfortable. Now for the negative points. The en suite had 2 steps down so at night, if you have to use the bathroom, you have to remember that the steps are there while you are half asleep so you don’t fall down. The shower size was about 21x21 inches (52x52 cm) of standing room. You couldn’t turn around in it because if you did the shower curtain would stick to your wet body and water spray out and make the floor outside your shower very wet. The other point with the shower was turning around in it you will hit the water lever which will change the water temperature or turn it off and also there was no soap holder in the shower and we only received 2 small soap cakes when we checked in and never got fresh soap so we used our own.
Now to the sink, which had a blocked drain. The toilet was difficult to flush and you needed to push the lever many times before it flushed but eventually it did. There was no power socket near the bathroom mirror to blow dry or style your hair or to use a shaver. They provided an iron with an ironing board on request but there is hardly any space to use it and also a hair dryer was supplied on request but that stopped working after a minute of use so we asked for another one but never received it. Towels are only changed once every 3 days but there was hardly anywhere to hang the towels on to dry them out for the other days that you will need them except for 1 hook behind the door and a towel rack that fell down all the time. Although both the sink and the towel holder were fixed (should have been fixed before we checked in) and we got fresh towels every day after we mentioned it.
Now for the room, which is very small with barely enough room for 2 people, it had a flat screen TV mounted on the wall, but the signal was often lost, a fridge and a tea making facility. It had no safe. The room needs to be refurbished badly as e.g. the wall paper is peeling off and the light fittings need to be modernized. While we were here the weather was hot so the room was warm and stuffy and we were given a fan after asking for one, which had a pedestal and sat on the floor, with only fast speed or off option and it was noisy. The bed light turned itself off by itself when you are reading and you had to hit it to turn it on again and at other times it flickered. The entry door to our room had a security chain but nothing to attach it to.
After the first night, considering we were staying here a few nights, we requested to have another room made available to us but were told that they are all booked out. We do know that they have some rooms that have been modernized and maybe we got the worst room in the place but I have to review the room I had been given and I would not use the pictures as a guide that the hotel has posted on Trip advisor also make sure you don’t book the room we had.

Pictures are attached.

Happy travelling.

“Handy to transit, friendly staff.”

The Anchor House Hotel is very handy to the tube/bus station about a block away. The hotel is very quiet -- we never even heard other guests, though the hotel was full. Our room was small but clean and we had an excellent night's sleep. There was a table with a kettle, instant coffee packets, tea, milk and sugar, and biscuits, which we took advantage of for late night and mid-day snacks. Breakfast was cold buffet, but excellent selection including fruit, cheese, croissant in addition to the usual continental. We arrived early and they held our luggage for us in the breakfast room. Staff was very friendly and helpful, especially when I discovered that I'd lost the stone from my ring. The owner and several others joined us in looking for it. (I found it -- all is good!) Great value for the money.

“A good 3* B&B”

The rooms were clean and newly refurbished.
The staff is very friendly.
Breakfast is offered for 1.5 hours.
Great location (near main bus station and many shops and restaurants)
We had a fridge in our room.
-
Towels are being replaced only every 3 days.
The bathroom is not being cleaned properly, they just wipe it with a dry towel.
The kettle was dirty inside.
Rooms are very small - although they provide an iron with board, there's no space to use it.
No sockets near the mirrors to blow dry/style your hair.
Very little choice for breakfast, only the cheapest cereals (Cornflakes, Branflakes, Rice Crispies), no English breakfast.
You can't sit straight on the toilet due to lack of space.
They only use a digital antenna for the tv, no cable or satellite -> there were hardly any channels you could watch properly, especially when it was raining outside.
