Hotel is currently undergoing significant refurbishment, so do bear that in mind short term. However, it is certainly not shabby... everything seems new and clean in the rooms.
Premier Inn has this automated system where you pay on check in. It is confusing , but the staff take you through it seamlessly, so not a problem.
Front desk staff always present and helpful, and no long waits.
The hotel has a 2nd part over an indoor bridge to the other side of the road. It's quite a long way and involves using 2 lifts.
My first night's sleep was disturbed by a noise in the ceiling/bathroom. probably a fan or lift, and possibly to do with being on the top (6th) floor. Anyway, they moved me without argument to a quieter room. All my stuff was moved for me, whilst I was out working in the day, so I had to do very little. just came back and got my new key, without a wait.
They currently have this money back if your night's sleep is disturbed. They offered this to me without asking, but I felt that was inappropriate and refused, especially as this hotel is quite good value... I was more interested in fixing the issue for the 2nd night.
Breakfast was acceptable, though the waiting staff were somewhat indifferent. Do tell them if the orange juice machine is kicking out water... seems there is a problem there, but they fixed it for someone else when they complained.
I had my evening meal in the room. You have to go down to the restaurant to collect and pay, because they don't do room service. That's OK, and it did not take long from ordering for them to call me down. I was a bit unimpressed that the drink accompanying my meal was not ready when I got down... not like it needs to be cooked. Staff wanted me to take the food back to the room and come back for the drink... which I was not prepared to do, because it is a long way. Drink came out reasonably quickly once they understood my displeasure.
2nd night, not disturbed by the noise due to the room change, and there was no street noise. Great, until the fire alarm went off at half past midnight. Because I had changed rooms, I had forgotten to refamiliarise with the fire escapes (always do this!), so was a bit more hyped than I might have otherwise been. Anyway, I was herded out of the fire escape by a staff member blaming it on someone showering with the door open. I guess their fire detection is too sensitive, though they do have copious notices warning you to shut the door when showering. Interesting to note that not many people responded to the fire alarm... great until it's the real thing.
