“some good aspects, but overall would not come back here.”

husband and i stayed here for one weekend early feb 2012 as i had too attend something for london 2012 event

good points: 1- location, close to buses + ttrains. 2- pubs + restaurants nearby . 3- cost. 4- rooms appear freshly done up. 5-the bar selection was ok enough.

bad points: 1- breakfast was horrendous! no variety to the menu, and no bacon on offer. 2- charge for keeping our car in their carparking facility pricey at £54 for the 3 nights i stayed. 3- internet access expensive......just seek out any internet cafe that is nearby, its much cheaper and not too inconvenient. pletny around the area. 4- hit and miss experience with staff. though a highlight of our stay was talking with very charming and witty staff member who was in training at the reception (daniel? damian? longhair and nice BRITISH accent), other staff we dealt with were not even nearly as nice.

overall we would not return simply because there are better value alternatives nearby.

Room Tip: not first floor and not top floor!!! and away from the noisy lift and stairs!!!!

Dear rossana s
Thanks for taking the time to let us have your feedback via Trip Advisor following your recent stay at the Holiday Inn Express - London Southwark. I was disappointed to read that you did not have a great experience when you stayed with us recently, I have shared your comments with the team, in particular the comments relating to staff inconsistancy so that we can carry out some corrective training and address our shortfalls in this area.
With regards to your comments regarding breakfast, the Complimentary Express Breakfast is a limited offering and does not offer a full choice of food items, we are currently reviewing this and are aiming to make some seasonal changes in the near future. Thanks again for your feedback and I do hope that you will stay with us again so we can restore your faith in the products and services that we offer. Kind Regards - Stephen

“Need of refurbishment quickly!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

Hotel was handy for central London, if you like walking, underground station not too far away.
The room that we were in was tiny, the carpet had obviously seen better days with bleach stains by the door. The shower was awful. The temperature control could not be moved, it constantly dripped. There was mould around the shower. Whe you flushed the toilet you got a wet leg from the flush spraying everywhere!!

The door key had to be renewed everyday. You would go up to your room and the key would not work, so new keys had to be issued all the time.

Breakfast was good, with Sausages, Beans and scrambled egg. Plus cereals, toast etc.

Would not want to stay here again

On top of the state of the room, the elevator kept you awake all night with its wires clanking away. This was room 215.

Room Tip: Do not get room 215 as you hear the elevator all the time.

Dear rovership
Thank you ofr taking the time to contact us with your feedback via Trip Advisor following your recent stay at the Holiday Inn Express - London Southwark. Firstly, I would like to apologise for the poor experience that you encountered and I was very dissapointed to read your comments and this is not typical of a guest stay at the hotel.
It is unfortunate that you did not manage to take these matters up with the Duty Manager at the time of your stay as I am confident that the team would have arranged a room move for you with the minimal of inconvenience.
Regardless of this I should point out the the hotel is currently undergoing some refurbishment of its bedrooms and bathroom facilities and these include, new carpets, beds, chairs and soft furnishings in the bedrooms. Also the shower areas are in teh process of being stripped and regrouted in all bedrooms as part of an ongoing maintenance schedule. i have shared your comments reagrding the leaking shower & toilet with the maintenance team who will address this problem. Once again, please accept our apologies and we look forward to the opportunity to welcome you back in the not too distant future. - Yours sincerely - Stephen

“Perfectly adequate”

We stayed here last weekend in Room 404 which faced the road. There was a hum of traffic but it did not disturb. We very nearly did not book this hotel as the reviews were so bad they were off putting. However, because of the location we did and had a good experience. We paid on average £100 per night for 3 nights. Room was fine with comfortable bed, hot water in shower and clean regular housekeeping. There was no wardrobe space but open shelves, and the temperature of the radiators had to be regulated by us as it was too warm for sleeping. Breakfast was fine too, a good range of cereals and excellent fresh fruit and yoghurt. Tried the overcooked scrambled egg once and that was enough. Sausages were delicious though. The staff were very friendly on every occasion we encountered them and the breakfast waitress worked very hard to keep the tables clean and the food topped up. Lift was small, but hey, they had something called stairs. Room key needed to be inserted slowly and carefully to activate, but not once did we have a problem. Hotel is within easy walking distance of Waterloo station. There are plenty of restaurants and pubs locally ranging in price and quality, especially on the path following the river along the southbank. We had a wonderful meal (pricey) in the Oxo tower, with an exceptional view along the Thames - there's a free viewing balcony too. We didn't get on a bus or a tube for 3 days as things can be reached if you like walking. For the price and location, this was a good find and we will stay here again.

“Well located, but room far too hot”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Fits the bill of somewhere relatively central & cheap to sleep.

Room was clean, reception friendly, breakfast offerings well stocked

However, room far too hot and unable to manage temperature so woke up at 0400 - so a poor sleep.

Would I stay again? Probably not (purely based on room temperature).

Room Tip: Request a refurbished room.

“central location, baby friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

Stayed here with my husband and baby. Good central location, easy walk to London Bridge station (10min stroll). All the staff were friendly and welcoming, especially to our 6mo son. Hotel was basic in terms of it's facilities and housekeeping was not as great as other hotels I have stayed but then you get what you pay for and I booked this because it was very reasonably priced.
If you want a family friendly hotel in a convenient location and don't mind a lack of luxury then this is perfect!
