“Overnight stay”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

I used the holiday inn express for an overnight stay in Feb 2012 the reception area was very clean and tidy and the staff were welcoming. The bar is a tiny part of the reception area and does not seat many people. My room was on the third floor and was very noisy I did not get much sleep you can hear the water running down the pipes whenever someone else flushes their toilet or uses the shower etc. The fuse kept going in the room so the TV and hairdryer did not work. Breakfast was served from 7.30 - 10.30am so we went down at 9.30am the breakfast room is a tiny room that does not hold many people this was filled so we had to wait and then clear a table ourselves in order to sit down! then we found out that they was not hot breakfast left neither were there any dishes left to use! we ended up eating somewhere else. Most of the cleaners were on their mobile phones whenever your saw them they did quickly try to put them away so we would not notice!! I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and most definitely would not stay again!!

“Worst Holiday Inn Express I've stayed in - Priority Points Gold member”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012 via mobile

Its 02.19 in the morning and I'm unable to sleep as my room (205) is like a sauna.

There is no thermostat. The radiator is switched off, and I can only open the window on to the main street a certain amount so there is no difference to temperature but I get all the street noise.

I've called down to reception to explain but their response was to turn off the heating. The heating is not switched on!!!

I explained this a couple of times and have explained that I won't be staying tomorrow night.

This is one of those old townhouses that has somehow managed to get itself under the holiday inn express franchise.

Im a big fan of Holiday Inn, but this woeful experience reflects very poorly on Holiday Inn Express brand I'm afraid.

“OK but not quite what I expected”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

This was a business trip, and I tend to stay in Holiday Inn and associated brands becuase of the priority club scheme. First impressions are that it is not you usual 'stand alone' HIX, as it is one of the converted town houses on Belgrave Road. Reception was a bit cramped, but stafg were very helpful.
The room itself is standard HIX decor, but unusually, there was no aircon. This could well be a problem in humid summer months, but wasn't really an issue in January, other than my bathroom mirror remained steamed up longer than I would have liked!
The room itself (308) had a strange odor coming from the bathroom - almost like a cross btween cats wee and domestos. I checked my colleagues room (305) and it wasn't in there, so just me. Pillows were a bit on the thin side, as were the towels. Also a strange smell coming from the sink, a common problem in HIX hotels as they do not seem to clean the bit of the plug that goes down the sink, which you have to invariably pull out as they never seem to work correctly.
Breakfast was the usual stuff, although the room was a bit cramped. The bar at night time is tiny with only ine draft lager, and there is no food available so you have to dine out.
As usual, I wore my ear plugs at night, but there did seem to be a fair bit of traffic noise.
All in all, not my best experience of a HIX.

“Lovely for a weekend stay very close to main attractions and victoria station/pimlico”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

My partner and I stayed here 21 - 22 of January for our anniversary! It was cheaper to come to London for a weekend than stay locally!! We were out all day Saturday sight-seeing and came back to the hotel to check in at around half 5..the staff were really helpful and polite and checked us in quickly giving us information about breakfast and taxi's. The room was on the 2nd floor and was immaculate, we had a kettle, cups and teabags etc and the local newspaper! There was glasses, face wipes, towels and soap for washing provided. The bar is small but it was handy for a pre-drink before dinner and I believe was open until 1am. There are a lot of bars, restuaraunts and pubs nearby if you wanted to stay local and westminster is only a 20 minute walk away. Pimlico station/tube is close by on belgrave road and victoria station is about 10 minutes walk at the other end. It was a tad too stuffy on the heating side but windows do open and there was an electric office fan provided. Breakfast in the morning was very basic - Scrambled eggs, sausage, toast, croissants, yoghurt and juices but no bacon :( on the whole a good service!

Room Tip: do crack open a window at night it gets very stuffy or as my partner would say "corrr its like...

“Certainly better than average - but maybe not very good!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

Hotel reception area very well presented and the two staff were very, very helpful. Room was large and looked as if it had been recently refurbished. Only (slight) criticism the shower - it was very good but I couldn't quite get the temperature right (maybe operator error!!)

Breakfast was fine - good choice - breakfast area kept clean although it was a self service.

After staying here I've booked it for next weeks visit (cancelling the St Giles, Nr Tottenham Court Road - this is better though perhaps not as well located - which may be more important if you're a tourist)

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the hotel are quieter
