“unexpected excellence”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

Location, location, location. The Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park is so well located one couldn't ask for better. Not just because you look over one of the most beautiful urban parks in the world but there is a metro stop a few paces away and SO many shops and restaurants within a short walk. Harvey Nichols and their wonderful 5th floor food court is across the street and Harrod's (if you must) is a few blocks away.
What sticks out as the most wonderful part of our stay was the hotel service. It is fully, perhaps overly staffed with the most pleasant and helpful people from housekeeping to room service to concierge. Everyone who works there seems to truly enjoy their job.
On the day of my departure I arrived at Heathrow and could not find my passport. I did not have service on my cell phone and was in a panic as I missed my homebound flight. Through the help of some kind desk agents the hotel was contacted and housekeeping was sent to our room to look for my documents. They found my passport and immediately put it into a London cab and had it whisked to the airport in time for the second and last flight out.
I hope the renovations that will take place for the coming of the Olympics will not drive the cost into the stratosphere of everything else one encounters in London. It was the best value of our entire trip and such a pleasant experience.
Danielle Baloud's restaurant is a pleasant departure from his stuffier New York venues .The interior is beautiful in a contemporary way and the food is casual but delicious.
Having breakfast overlooking the park is so beautiful and on most days one can watch the Queen's Guards practicing on horseback. Charming!

Room Tip: Facing Knightsbridge might be loud. We were on a courtyard. No view but extremely quiet.

“Mandarined”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

I use the word as verb because the staff at this hotel will go the extra mile. Coming to the airport with a forgotten computer, assigning the same room each time, allowing early check in and finding space at Heston BLumenthal when there is none, all are the Mandarin and its' staff making the guest come first. It is one of the finest hotels in the world which has solved the biggest problem of the industry PEOPLE they are the best from Mr McHale to Girard the concierge to Daphne on the front desk I am made to feel wanted and special It shall continue to be the only hotel I choose in London

Room Tip: Parkside or inside just check the Square metres

“elegant & luxurious but glaring deficiency”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

First, the good: location unbeatable, really superior, top notch service, lovely marble entry.

Now, the bad: no lobby! How can a 5 star hotel not have a place to sit, relax and read a paper? Or recover from jet lag? Pretty odd in my opinion. Rooms elegant, but carpets desperately need to be replaced. And rooms should have irons - when one travels from half way around the world, one does not want to send out all of one's clothing to be ironed . . . .at quite stiff prices.

To their credit, all staff have had lots of customer service training and it shows - they do go the extra mile to please guests.

“Good hotel, good service, good location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

I spent four nights at this hotel recently. I was Ill for one of the days and the hotel was incredibly helpful and took great care of me. The hotel has one of the best spas in London, the restaurant downstairs is top quality. I have stayed here many times and the staff are friendly and know me by name.

Good for shopping and very close to Hyde Park. The hotel is good whether you are visiting London for pleasure, shopping or work. It's not cheap, but at least you get outstanding seervice
