I stayed in the Colonnade last month for one night only. I chose it due its' proximity to friends in London.
Originally I had looked on the hotel website for a room and was put off by the prices, however I got a really good deal on one of the "last minute" websites (I can't remember which one), so I went ahead and booked.
On arrival I was very happy with my choice, the staff were really attentive and friendly and the hotel has bags of character. Someone showed me to my room while giving a brief history of the building (including the lift, which is hilarious); all very pleasant so far.
On entering my bedroom, I was really disappointed with it. It was in need of some serious modernisation. There is "old charming" and "old tatty", this place was very much the latter.
The window in the bathroom was falling apart and the cushions on the bed were ripped to shreds. I know the place is undergoing renovation, but this was just careless and lazy. Inexcusable. It would take a handyman approx. 1 hour to fix the window and the cushions were a real turn off.
To make things worse, the TV didn't work (it was constantly pixelated); I asked on 3 separate occasions for it to be fixed... This never happened.
I believe my room was a Petite Double, it was small, but I don't mind that. If I had paid full whack for it, I would have been furious. Judging from other peoples reviews, all the other rooms seem fine, just avoid the top floor.
Must try harder.
Room Tip: Pay extra to avoid the top floor.
