“Excellent location for theatres”

I stayed here with my husband last weekend.

We checked in and were supposed to be upgraded as he is a Platinum member (ie stays in Radissons for almost a fifth of his life!). So when we got to our room we were a bit surprised. It was the tiniest double I'd ever seen and the wardrobe door was jammed. If you're on business OK, you're never in your room, but this was our child free weekend away! We went downstairs for a drink, and I persuaded my husband to go and have a quiet word at reception.

Fortunately for us the Guest Services Manager Luke, was behind the concierge desk. He couldn't do enough for us, he was efficient, courteous, and made our trip. The staff are all (except the check in girl we had!) excellent. They are friendly without being overwhelming and incredibly efficient. The housekeeping staff all treat you to a friendly smile.

We were given a bigger room with a bigger bed, and a bottle of wine for the hassle of moving. This was on the fifth floor overlooking some flats. The decor in all the rooms is exceptional. I really liked the breakfast buffet. And even just having a drink in the bar was enjoyable. Some of the ornaments and pictures are fab.

We stayed in the Mayfair last year, and I prefer this. It's smaller but benefits from that I think. The restaurant was good in the evening, it was one of the coldest nights of the year and we just didn't want to walk anywhere. We went to the theatre and it was a ten minute walk down to the theatres on Shaftesbury.

If we hadn't had the hassle to begin with I'd have given this five stars, as our trip would have been perfect.

I'd love to know what scent they use in the lobby!

Dear Reviewer,

Thank you for your pleasant comments about the Bloomsbury St Hotel.

I am delighted to pass your comments to my team for it is their collective effort made your stay in our hotel so amazing! We are proud to be on the footsteps of the British Museum, and some of the world famous theatrical treats - such as We Will Rock You, Jersey Boys, Mousetrap, etc... and never too far away from any shops that may interest you for a last minute 'retail therapy'.

May I kindly suggest that you try to stay in our newly launched studio suites on our 'Exclusive' Floor on your next visit to London. These rooms are most definitely designed to impress and make statement of comfortable style and elegant 'luxury'.

If I can be of any help to plan your future stays please do not hesiate to contact me directly.

“Excellent Staff”

I can't say enough about the staff. They were the ones that made our stay wonderful. Thoughtful, helpful, professional, kind, witty and the rest of the adjectives that I am at a loss to describe this wonderful group of people. The Radisson is lucky to employ such a marvelous staff. You can ask them for anything. If for some unknown reason that can't accommodate you, they know just the right person or place without any problems. Just simply wonderful. The hotel has a great location and is not far from anything you may desire. We also really enjoyed the lounge for drinks and relaxing with good music in the background. Very nice place. The room was comfortable too. But in the end, it was the staff that really made this stay worth it.

“Outstanding staff”

I already stayed at the Radisson Bloomsbury several times and I would always come back. The rooms always smell good, are clean and have a size that is o.k. (some might be small-ish, but if you travel for business you don't spend too much time in your room anyway). What makes this hotel great is its helpful stuff. I have never had to deal with unfriendly/unhelpful staff in this hotel - which is not granted even in 4-5 star hotels. I can fully recommend this hotel for business trips due to its good service and central location.

“Nice hotel but service isn't what it used to be.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

This is my 3. (or 4. I don't remember) visit at this hotel. Nice hotel with nice design all over. Standard rooms are small so this time I booked a Deluxe room. The reason why I booked a deluxe is that I got a almost £100 off (or just to get me to book the room fast?) the roomrate (for 2 nights) because I booked early at Radisson.com (but I could not cancel the reservation at this price, if I did I would not get any money back). So I payed £355 for 2 nights but still I think it was a little expensive. I will not book it again for this price. I think it's not worth it. And is the normal price for deluxe room really £450 for 2 nights? I don't think so!

Room was good size and nice designed. Bed was great! And I got a room with view of the courtyard. So it was a quiet room. And I could open window, so I used it as refrigerator for my water and beer as it was no space left in the minibar due to the automatic system in it (remove 1 item and put it back but you still have to pay for it). And minibar was not so cold either.

I didn't like that the tv was so high up. And the picturequality was not good. Reading light on the bed was bad, and the light switches next to bed was far away so I have to almost get out of bed to switch the lights off.

There is free WiFi at this hotel. But it was very very slow. And it didn't work several times. And it didn't work at all for many hours (3.30pm to 8pm!). I called reception. They could not do anything but advice me to buy internet via cable (!). This costs £14! Of course I didn't. Free WiFi is great but it isn't when it's not working. It worked later but is was very very slow. And often it just disconnected. Bad! I wonder why internet with cable is so expensive, oh of course it's working and it's faster!

I ordered a dish from roomservice. Lamb with mash. Mash was made from only 2 potatos so it was very little. Little meat too. And price was £22!! So it was very expensive and little food. But it was good.

(+):
room size and design
bathroom design
bed
design of hotel
1 free bottle of water every day in room

(-):
cold bathroom
tv high up and bad picture quality
Wifi is very very slow and many times it disconnected and not working for many hours and staff didn't do anything about it! Just said: "Try the cable!" (and pay £14)

Expensive room even at discounted price (or "discounted"...)
Expensive room service and little food
£14 for internet via cable
reading light, light switch next to bed
ugly "refrigerator" tv-stand
loud noise from heater
no desk
very narrow bathroom door (why?)
if I turned off the lights with master switch next to bed still 1 light next to outsidedoor was on (!)

I am a little dissapointed. Next time I will book other hotel in London.

Dear Reviewer,

Thank you for your candid post on this forum.

Feedback - both positive and constructive is vital to the success of our hotel, as it allows us to identify areas of improvement and take necessary steps. I have made a note of your comments and would like to assure you that necessary steps are being taken by the food and beverage manager (for the room service issue) and chief engineer (for the issue with T.V picture quality).

Kindly allow me to clarify that our hotel offers COMPLIMENTARY wi-fi, and if for any reason this is not working LAN connection charge will NOT be made on your account. Thereby I find your comments unnecessary and incorrect as it does not give accurate information to travellers.

I trust the above has clarified any confusion that may arise in the minds of the readers of this post.

I am always contactable for any queries via hotel reception or guest relations.

Sincerely,

“Good value hotel for business travel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

I stayed at Radisson Edwardian Bloomsbury Street for three nights in December 2011. The room was very comfortable. Can't really fault anything - even the heating and showers were working perfectly which is not always so in Britain. The staff was extremely helpful and the breakfast pretty good, too. The only minor complaint was the room service food that I did not really like when I had it one evening. The location is central but all I ever went to was the office nearby.
