“review for afternoon tea”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

this review is for the afternoon tea and not for the hotel itself as we did not stay here. since we were in england, my friend and i felt that we had to experience high tea. there is quite a variety out there and we decided on this one b/c there was still availability online the week of and it got the UK tea council award. plus its located in a fancy, classy hotel - thought we couldnt go wrong.

the food consisted of a plate of mini sandwiches, cakes, and pastries. the sandwich with the salmon, the pastry with the macaroons, and the cake with the guava was my personal favorites. however it doesn't seem like everyone was served the same thing. perhaps it depends on when you come in. it also came with an additional couple plates of another plates that were just mediocre. the ending 'shot' of wine was very interesting. very sweet and it was hot!!

having said that in addition to the price of the tea, vat is 17.5%and service fee of 12.5% is added to your bill... so now your bill just became $$$$! like the amount for dinner! it was an experience and it was at an expensive hotel, so i expected to pay a steep price. was it worth it? mmm not really. i think there could probably be better...

“Perfect weekend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

Perfect weekend stay at The Lanesborough. Very friendly staff. The afternoon tea had an great atmosphere and the piano bar was a great hang out for an after dinner whiskey at a slow fridays night.
The room was clean, spacious and had a personal butler. Delivered my suit and shirts for pressing at 4pm and had it delivered at my door at 7pm.
All over a perfect stay.

“Quality......”

We stayed at The Lanesborough in December as a a treat to celebrate my wife's Birthday.

Having stayed in a few 5 Star hotels in London over the past year or so we both agreed that this is by far the best, and the one that we would choose to return to.

Everything about this hotel is just right - the location, the ambience, the rooms, the service, but above all the understated elegance which makes it so special. There is no air of pomposity here, but a warm and friendly atmosphere that we really appreciated.

The Rooms are not huge but perfectly adequate in size, and sumptuously equipped. Very much an Old English style of room, but with Hi-Tech additions that are cleverly hidden in the background. Beds and linen were as you would expect them to be - highest quality. If we had one gripe it would be the speed of the hotel internet. It was painfully slow, but this may be more to the nature of the building itself, which looks like it was is hewn out of solid rock many years ago. There is a butler in attendance at all times, but this service is unobtrusive and only visible when you need it. They also do a very fine job of pressing clothes if this is needed.

The Bathroom was rather like something from the Orient Express with lashings of wood panelling. The products provided are excellent, and you can purchase these from Reception. Although "old fashioned" in appearance, everything works perfectly.

We had a very good Breakfast in the delightful dining room, and were welcomed and looked after by all the staff we met. All other public areas have a grand feel about them, and in particular the Cigar Room was just wonderful - there is nowhere else like this in London. Well worth a look at this, even if you do not smoke, but I would not recommend it to people who have recently stopped smoking!

So not the cheapest hotel you will stay in, but one of the best.

Room Tip: The less expensive rooms are still special.

“Wonderful afternoon tea”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

as a Christmas present a group of us gave each other afternoon tea and chose The Lanesborough. I can't say how it compares to other places as afternoon tea is not my usual thing but as a treat this would take some beating. It is a beautiful hotel and the staff are attentive without being too much. There was a great selection and we all came away having had a great experience.

“London should be very proud of this beautiful hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

Vogue once said : As the chill wind blows across Hyde Park, it is comforting to know that you can close the drapes and luxuriate at The Lanesborough.

I sit, in my room at the Lanesborough, writing this review, over looking Hyde Park. The hotel started modern life as St Georges Hospital, having once been a private house. In 1991 it was reborn as a hotel. I was born here and wanted to celebrate my birthday in the hotel. The staff could not have been more thrilled to help me make this day special. Champagne, birthday cake and wonderful breakfasts, personalised writing paper in our room - nothing too much trouble for any of the staff here. The rooms are ornate, the food and cocktails memorable (for the right reasons), and the service is second to none.

If you get the opportunity to sample The Lanesborough, whether it's for drinks, or afternoon tea, or as a resident - grab it with both hands and don't let go !

Room Tip: Hyde Park, if they can manage it, is a wonderful view.
