I stayed at the May Fair for two nights in February and received an free upgrade to a Deluxe room, having booked through the hotel website and presumably the hotel was fairly unoccupied due to the poor weather.
The Deluxe room while pleasant enough was rather minimalist for my liking. A large room with a king size bed and not much else. No desk just a circular glass table and a narrow wall table, more like a large shelf. The bed was comfortable but the room with only one window was inadequately lit. The minibar as is usually the case with London hotels was sufficiently overpriced to preclude me for using it. The bin provided was ridiculously small for a hotel bedroom.
The bathroom had a wall tv in it, an unusual but useful feature. The lack of individual toiletries I found particularly annoying, instead there are wall-mounted pump containers which require some effort to get the amount required. Given the room rate this really is unsatisfactory. The marble flooring in the shower has discoloured in places which made it look unclean when it was not. The grouting on the marble part of the walls had been poorly done and gaps between slabs were apparent. The hanging area near the door was inadequately lit.
The hotel seems to only have three particularly small lifts, that you would struggle to get more than four people in. Public areas were pleasantly large but the corridors on the sixth floor were a maze in need of clearer signage. As breakfast was not included in my rate I did not take it. Significantly cheaper breakfast option can be found nearby, as is usually the case with London hotels. The May Fair bar seemed both loud and popular, to the point of being overcrowded so I did not linger there. Had I been able to find a seat, I probably would have tried a cocktail or two.
The location is the best thing about the hotel, just off Piccadilly and Green Park tube as close.
Overall a good hotel but more like an overpriced hotel at the high end of 4*, than 5*.
