“Nice Hotel in the Heart of the City”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

This is my second time in this Hotel and I recommended to it for a weekend trip to London. If you have limited time, looking for a fair priced downtown hotel , near to shopping and other attractions, The Mayfair could be a good choice. The Mayfair bar is very popular and crowded , lobby is filled with people coming in and out of the bar during the night.

“Good but ...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

My boyfriend and I stayed at The May Fair for a special one night treat after going to the ballet. I booked the Mayfair through lastminute.com "secret" hotels so I did get a very good rate and for the price I was very impressed with the size and quality of the room.
I'm sure my review is a little biased as we booked the room with a discount I'm sure it wasn't the best they could offer, however as it was on the corner of the hotel over looking the main road it was very noisy and the noise of the traffic woke me up at several points in the night.
If I was paying full price for the room I would have been very disappointed however I accepted it as we had a special offer.
All in all I might return but it wouldn't be my first choice, I think I'd be more inclined to try one of the many other hotels in London.

Thank you for your feedback and I was pleased to hear that you were impressed with the size and quality of the room you occupied.
I was, however, so sorry to hear that you were disturbed by outside noise and would ask that if you do return to the Hotel, you ask to be allocated one of our quieter rooms and Reception will be delighted to arrange this for you.
We very much look forward to welcoming you back again soon.
With warmest wishes,
Anthony

“Good hotel but more like 4 star and scope for improvement”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012 via mobile

I stayed at the May Fair for two nights in February and received an free upgrade to a Deluxe room, having booked through the hotel website and presumably the hotel was fairly unoccupied due to the poor weather.

The Deluxe room while pleasant enough was rather minimalist for my liking. A large room with a king size bed and not much else. No desk just a circular glass table and a narrow wall table, more like a large shelf. The bed was comfortable but the room with only one window was inadequately lit. The minibar as is usually the case with London hotels was sufficiently overpriced to preclude me for using it. The bin provided was ridiculously small for a hotel bedroom.

The bathroom had a wall tv in it, an unusual but useful feature. The lack of individual toiletries I found particularly annoying, instead there are wall-mounted pump containers which require some effort to get the amount required. Given the room rate this really is unsatisfactory. The marble flooring in the shower has discoloured in places which made it look unclean when it was not. The grouting on the marble part of the walls had been poorly done and gaps between slabs were apparent. The hanging area near the door was inadequately lit.

The hotel seems to only have three particularly small lifts, that you would struggle to get more than four people in. Public areas were pleasantly large but the corridors on the sixth floor were a maze in need of clearer signage. As breakfast was not included in my rate I did not take it. Significantly cheaper breakfast option can be found nearby, as is usually the case with London hotels. The May Fair bar seemed both loud and popular, to the point of being overcrowded so I did not linger there. Had I been able to find a seat, I probably would have tried a cocktail or two.

The location is the best thing about the hotel, just off Piccadilly and Green Park tube as close.

Overall a good hotel but more like an overpriced hotel at the high end of 4*, than 5*.

“Very Disappointed Will Not Return”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

Currently staying in the hotel for what was meant to be a romantic weekend. I booked the Valentines special at a rate of £675 for the 2 nights. On arrival reception announced that I had booked the valentines special to my partner which was meant to be a surprise. The room - well the room was awful it was shabby on a floor that was being repainted so the paint fumes played havoc with my migraines and it was tiny with the wardrobe hanging space in the bathroom ? There should have been champagne, chocolates and chocolate covered strawberries in the room but nothing was there. I requested a move I was offered the same room on another floor I declined and had to pay extra to upgrade. The deluxe room is average but great compared to the first. I still have not received the valentines extras so all in all a total disappointment and I will not return..

“Look no further”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

I live and work in London and have done all my life. I work in the professional Spa industry and visit many hotels as part of my job. I can honestly say that The Mayfair Hotel is one of my out-and-out favourites. If you are planning on staying in a central London hotel, look no further. The service is exceptional, the décor of the hotel rooms is exquisite, the food is superb, the beds are extremely comfortable and the location is excellent. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed. I have absolutely no qualms in recommending this hotel. Can’t wait to return.
