“We had a marvelous stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 February 2012

Great location between Piccadilly Circus and Hyde Park. Across Green Park and Buckingham Palace. Only 15 min. walk from Oxford Street.

Our room (overlooking Down Street in a traditional building with separate entrance) was like a home to us, very spacious with a king size extremely comfortable bed and a small but modern bathroom with lots of towels and toiletries.
There was also in a room, a very clever construction for the huge tv, a desk, closet and a kitchen area with the mini bar, espresso machine, glasses, cups, spoons and all the necessary relatively facilities.

All very clean, nice quality and cosy.

We especially enjoyed the side table with the two armchairs close to the three sides window for relax, drinks and snacks.

Transportation: Green Park and Hyde Park Corner tube stations within a couple of minutes, plus two bus stops in front of the hotel and one across the street.

Great plus: very friendly and extremely, helpful and efficient staff.

We had no breakfast or meals at the hotel (which where expensive for us) but we enjoyed a lot the complimentary products from the mini bar (refreshments, milk, juices, chocolate and cereal bars, etc.), Nescafe espresso machine which were inclusive with facilities for coffee, tea and chocolate drinks.

Kids had free movies, tv games and a glass of milk with cookies every night. They had also for present yoyos which was a little bit useless for them since they are girls-teenagers (I think that hotel must consider the age and interests of the kids for the presents which otherwise is a warm and welcome touch). Overall they felt very comfortable with the hotel and our room and they really loved it.

As a conclusion, the hotel is excellent and we will definitely go back again and recommend it to anyone - either travelling for pleasure or business.

“Very nice hotel with silly blemishes”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

I stayed here one night for work. The room wasn't large but very nice, including the bathroom. Goodies like bathrobes, Nespresso machine, free minibar (except alcohol), free Wi-Fi, and so on. I did not try the breakfast and I didn't have time to check out the fitness room. However, I couldn't figure out how to work the Nespresso machine (and I'm pretty sure it was broken, the coffee vanished somewhere inside), nor the cordless phone. Silly blemishes for what seems to mostly be a top-notch hotel on Piccadilly next to Green Park. I'll still give it Very Good but it could have been competing for Excellent.

“What a lovely hotel and staff!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

We arrived on a sunny Thursday afternoon for a cheeky midweek trip to London. From the vert outset, the hotel surpassed expectations. The doorman was fantastic, very friendly, very helpful and very TALL!! Valet parking was cheaper than some in Mayfair and very quick. Reception staff were great and we had an expert room explaination from Paola which was very informative. Concierges were lovely although we had little need for them as we had already chosen our restaurants and activities. Room was not massive but on the eighth floor had great views over Green Park. Bathroom had everything you needed with a fabulously powerful shower and wonderful "REN" products. The bed was comfy and soft drinks and snacky bits were free of charge. Breakfast was lovely, with a great cold buffet and much choice of hot food. Service was great both mornings. The bar was comfortable and welcoming, with great coffee served with a smile. All in all, the location and comfort of this hotel would be enough to encourage us back but the staff were exceptional and make it a definite yes!

Room Tip: HIgher the better and with a view of the park!

“I'm going back!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

Stayed Saturday night for a weekend in London. Pulled up outside for a great welcome from the doorman. The car was whisked away and we were in our room within a few minutes. A great room overlooking Green Park although we were aware we could equally have had one at the back. Ideally located for exploring central London we got a day pass for Thames Clippers and went to Greenwich Market, under the Thames in the foot tunnel and back to the Eye in time for a fantastic view of the capital at night. Got back to the room to find the bed turned down and a heart of rose petals on the bed with chocolates and candles. Soft drinks and snacks in the room are included.
The only issue with the room was that we spent all night with the air con on after looking all round the walls for the control that I found on the bedside table in the morning and the fact that you cant turn the bedside lights on without the room lights, very strange. It would be better if these details were explained when you were shown to your room. Minor items though.
Breakfast was really good and the staff very friendly. When we left the car was outside within minutes ready for us.

“Great two night stay at the Athenaeum.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

We booked to stay at the Athenaeum for two nights for my wife's birthday celebrations in London.

The hotel is in a fantastic location with Green Park, Buckingham Palace, The Ritz, Old Bond St, Harrods, Hyde Park, etc, all within walking distance and the hotel is just 300 metres from Green Park tube station.

The staff at the hotel were very friendly, and our room was beautifully decorated and well appointed. We weren't disturbed by any external noise at all, and given the location of the hotel we were surprised by this, which meant we were able to rest well during our time there.

We ate in the hotel restaurant at lunch and the food was fantastic. The a la carte menu was a little pricey for us for lunch, but there was an excellent value set menu (if memory serves it was 2 courses for £15) and we were very impressed with the quality of the food for this price given the setting.

We had a few drinks in the bar in the evening and the service was fantastic. I loved the whiskey and cheese bar and thought it was an excellent concept. But then I'm a massive fan of both whiskey and cheese so I'm easily sold! :)

We did manage to book the hotel on a pre-pay deal so it provided amazing value, but I'd imagine it'd still be worth the money if you paid full price as it is a lovely hotel with very nice staff. It's well worth a visit for a drink or something to eat if you happen to be passing as well.
