Booked a stay at this hotel for wife's 40th birthday weekend. On arrival our room wasnt ready so we decided to have a drink while we waited, the bar being about 20 feet from reception area. We were charged a service charge of £1.35 for someone to pour you a drink, never had a charge like this at any hotel I have ever stayed and I have stayed at many. I hate these automatic charges.
The room we had was fine, clean and tidy even though it wasnt quite as good as I expected from the hotel website.
The ventilation and air conditioning in the room is awful. We didnt really notice it in the afternoon, it was only when we returned late evening the problems began. As we entered the room it was very cold even though i had the temperature set at 28 degrees, i reached up to the vent it was blowing cold air, this continued to blow cold air even when the air con is turned off. To make matters worse the cold air blowing vent was quite noisy making getting to sleep very difficult. I went to reception to complain and the night porter wanted to come up and check my room at midnight, absolutely ridiculous. After 5 minutes of arguing he handed me another room key which i checked to find no better.
We decided to just grin and bear it, what else could we do.
In the morning we went down for breakfast, where we ordered what we wanted. We had already paid for this as part of the room rate, the staff said that we hadnt and it was lucky that i had the confirmation from the hotel proving that i was correct. There were quite a few people in the restaraunt and this was really embarassing, the staff seemed to ignore us after this and everyone else had their breakfast before us, even though we were at the restaraunt before most people.
We had a great weekend in London but this hotel was a let down, it left me wishing that i booked the park plaza which is only a couple of quid more.
If you're looking for a good nights sleep, book elsewhere.
