“Disappointing was hoping for so much more”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012 via mobile

Booked a stay at this hotel for wife's 40th birthday weekend. On arrival our room wasnt ready so we decided to have a drink while we waited, the bar being about 20 feet from reception area. We were charged a service charge of £1.35 for someone to pour you a drink, never had a charge like this at any hotel I have ever stayed and I have stayed at many. I hate these automatic charges.

The room we had was fine, clean and tidy even though it wasnt quite as good as I expected from the hotel website.

The ventilation and air conditioning in the room is awful. We didnt really notice it in the afternoon, it was only when we returned late evening the problems began. As we entered the room it was very cold even though i had the temperature set at 28 degrees, i reached up to the vent it was blowing cold air, this continued to blow cold air even when the air con is turned off. To make matters worse the cold air blowing vent was quite noisy making getting to sleep very difficult. I went to reception to complain and the night porter wanted to come up and check my room at midnight, absolutely ridiculous. After 5 minutes of arguing he handed me another room key which i checked to find no better.

We decided to just grin and bear it, what else could we do.

In the morning we went down for breakfast, where we ordered what we wanted. We had already paid for this as part of the room rate, the staff said that we hadnt and it was lucky that i had the confirmation from the hotel proving that i was correct. There were quite a few people in the restaraunt and this was really embarassing, the staff seemed to ignore us after this and everyone else had their breakfast before us, even though we were at the restaraunt before most people.

We had a great weekend in London but this hotel was a let down, it left me wishing that i booked the park plaza which is only a couple of quid more.

If you're looking for a good nights sleep, book elsewhere.

“My home from home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

I stay here 2 nights a week, and love it. The staff are really friendly and helpful, especially on the front desk and at breakfast. Alright, the Mac TV is style over substance, but the beds are comfortable, the bathrooms lovely, and the staff can't do enough to make your stay great. Fab location - easy access to London Bridge station, and lots of interesting things opening up in Bermondsey. Check out Bermondsey Street for the boutique shops, bars & restaurants (esp Zucca the Italian restaurant which is amazing). Also, there's a great independent bookshop on the square which gives you a discount with your hotel card, and even a pilates class on Tuesday nights in the hotel which is discounted for guests. Give it a try - you might get hooked!

Room Tip: Ask to be Square side which are a bit quieter.

“Great location, comfortable but ventilation issues”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Overall, I enjoyed my stay at this hotel however, there were a couple of issues.

Even though I'd received a confirmation email, plus reminder email, when I arrived at Reception to check in they didn't have any reservation on the system. A blip. After a wait, they made a new reservation and allocated a room.

I was quite keen on a short lie down before heading out in the evening, but the ventilation which is on almost constantly (not between 12am-6am ish) was pumping out quite a bit of cold air. After a few attempts by the manager, we managed to regulate the temperature by offsetting the a/c on heat, but it wasn't ideal. Because of the position of the vent, it hit the head of the bed first, my left eye watered all weekend. Not ideal as I said. It was due to the windows not opening that they have to have this, but for me it really made me quite uncomfortable. All the rooms are the same, so no chance to move.

The room was perfect size for one person, Mac tv on the wall, lovely bright bathroom, all very clean and contemporary (but not overly so). The front desk desk very friendly and helpful. At the time, the restaurant was being renovated, so I didn't have a chance to try it out. It'll be a new Gregg Wallace restaurant - sounds like fun - watch this space. Opening end of Feb 2012.

“Never ever again”

I just got back from a business trip to London and must say out of all the 4 star hotels I had the chance to stay in, this is definitely not one of them!
The style is nice, but it seemed that this is all they are aiming for. The towels are in comparision to other hotels small and hard (not fluffy at all, and certainly no bathrobe or slippers), the shower some kind of designpiece that guarantees your hair getting wet even if you don't want to (you end up with a stiff neck), the bathroom supplies are simply a joke.
Not only did I hear a motor running in my room that kept me up all night, from your bed you can hear every footstep outside your room and not to mention the conversations in the adjoining room. Seems to me they invested more on art then on isolation.
I returned to my room at 3pm only to discover that it wasn't made either. All of my issues where reported to the front desk, but not even the manager made time to speak to me. Staff is friendly but I do expect differently from a 4 star hotel.
The location is not as close to anything as it promises. I was recommended taking the bus into town, ending up on a 1-hour journey to and from the city (Bus 188 and 1, you have to change at Holborn or Tottenham Court Road).
Hugely disappointed, can not recommend this to anybody at all.
