“Nightmare hotel”

I booked thru hotels.com, i requested a quiet single room and explained i have a problem with poky little rooms, so could they make sure i was not put in a closet type of single room. As usual they assured they would especially enphasise my needs. I also called the hotel myself after having made the booking, again i was reassured by the hotel staff, that i was already allocated in a good size quiet single room on the first floor. At check in i was told that was a surcharge of 4% if i paid by debit card, (Hotels.com staff never mentioned this over the phone!) i refused the charge, so i asked the reception staff to hold my small suitcase at reception, at which Ahmed replied that it would be just fine to leave it in the middle of the corridor, i just took my luggage and went to the nearest ATM. Paid my room, i was shown, to NO KIDDIING a 1m x1.50m room right up 1 flight of stairs in front of reception and main entrance, i asked for a refund, as i had specifically phoned in order to avoid this situation. Refused, the reception boy Ahmed, did not offer any kind of help, or apologies, and kept mocking me, with a sarcarstic "enjoy your stay". The bed was fit for a prison cell, which in fact was, cold shower, could not move as my small suitcase was taking up the floor space left. I did no have breakfast, could not face anymore disgusting surprises. NEVER AGAIN! IT'S ON MY BLACK BOOK OF HOTELS TO AVOID IN LONDON. I did not pay for being taken for an idiot! DONT GO THERE.

“RIP OFF!!! BE CAREFULL!”

Tried to book this hotel with a debit card and was told very adamantly that they were unable to reserve a room for me with this type of card as they dont accept debit cards!!! - then to my astonishment they charged me (yes on the same card!) half the full price for not turning up! After reading other reviews, seems they can charge whenever they like for whatever they like even without your premission then refer you to some dodgy small print on their website!! Staff rude and accused me of lying when I tried to discuss the issue with them - stay away!

“Looks nice on the outside but paper thin walls and windows”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

I travel for work and need a place to relax at the end of the day and a quiet hotel. This was not my experience. 1st night - mid week, I stayed on the 3rd floor with a courtyard and it was quiet for the first 20 minutes until my neighbours came back and turned on their bathroom fan and left it on while they went out for 3 hours. Then they kept opening and shutting the fire doors and talking loudly. I was angry but knew there was nothing the hotel could do because of their lack of insulation in the walls. By 2 am the loud neighbours left and then by 5 am they were back turning on the bathroom fan. The next morning, I politely asked my neighbours were going to be back and if so could I please be moved. Sure enough, they claimed they did not hear the loud party and did not understand why I did not register a complaint. Ok so if I were to register a complaint, most likely they would not be able to stop the noise, esp. if they are renting their rooms to college age students. They kindly moved me and put me in the basement in a room facing the street with a single pained window so I could hear all the cars driving by, slamming their doors, and the click clack of people walking. I can hear my neighbours pacing their floor and slamming the doors even the fire door that squeaks open and shut. I hope to go for a run in Hyde Park before my long 10 hour day ... we shall see if I can pull off at least 4 hours of sleep.

Room Tip: None of the rooms, they are all loud.

“TERRIBLE, INFURIATING!!! a 3 stars hotel??!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

I've stayed in this hotel for 3 nights during 2012 eve and I payed 224 pounds, expensive for a single room. What to say; It was the worst experience I have ever had!!! thin rooms, strange smell, no lift, noisy, cannot sleep, lavatory inside shower, and the worst of all :

I've found S-L-U-G-S many times in my room!!! (see the pictures)

How this could happen in a "3 stars" hotel??? Who give this assessment??? even NO star is not acceptable, and I didn't talk about the very small breakfast room where you can't stand, and the content of their promised "continental" breakfast, very terrible!!!

What a shame for London to have such hotels, I've been in many hotels around the world and really I've never ever seen this even in "Third World" hotels. Moreover, even after complaining many time (cause each night I found new SLUGS), NO SOLUTION.

The manager (called "Ahmed" by phone) is never around physically and difficult to join by phone even if you ask many time the reception, the employed staff was very friendly and wanted to help but no solution: "We are complete, we suggest a room in an other hotel".

Sound good... I went to the suggested hotel (which is financed by the same manager) and I discovered a very small room, smaller than the room #26!!! It is for rats not for humans. And the worst was the receptionist: coarse and threatening, UNBELIEVABLE!!!

After this new very grueling experience, coming back to Notting Hill Gate hotel: Of course, no solution provided, as I have to stay in room #26 with SLUGS for an other night. The last night they finally changed it for an other room, it was the room #1.

OK, can I breath and sleep?!... NO, it was in the basement, strange smell, very noisy, no WiFi signal, NO INTERNET ACCESS. I would prefer SLUGS in room #26?! It was an UNBELIEVABLE experience. How this 3 stars hotel could exist???!!!

Room Tip: VERY IMPORTANT: The only single room this hotel has is room #26, the worst room I've never seen...
