“Communication not a strong point at the Sir Thomas Hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

The last hotel I reviewed was the One and Only Royal Mirage in Dubai. From the sublime to the rediculous!
We checked into the Sir Thomas on Saturday morning after leaving the car in the designated car park.We were told 'Oh we don't use that car park now!' despite having printed instructions off their website the day before.'Oh we are updating the website' we were told but no refund of the car park charge when we went to move it to the correct car park.
Our room was freezing cold and had no hot water, so no shower. We were not informed that the boiler had broken.
After evening dinner when we returned to our room, still no hot water and we slept with our coats on the bed. When we lodged a complaint when checking out on Sunday morning we were told that we would have to complain to Mr McLoughlin, the General Manager. We had spent a most uncomfortable, cold and dirty two days in the Sir Thomas and considered compensation was an option. We have emailed him and written to him but to not avail after over a week.

Room Tip: Ask to be situated away from the disco side of the hotel which discharges its guests at 4am

“So central!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Myself and my fiance stayed at this hotel for two nights and still recommend it to friends and family. It was perfectly central to everything. Downstairs is lovely. The cocktails are brilliant, there's a good vibe, and the breakfast was fab!

The rooms aren't AS great, but I didn't notice anything that wasn't tidy. The rooms are quite small, and the bathrooms weren't very fancy, but it was decently priced and we were only in it to sleep in it.

Saying that, if I was going in future, because we get away together so little, I probably would pay a bit more money to get a fancier bedroom!

“Appalling Boxing Day dining experience”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

I booked in for a celebratory Boxing Day meal with the family at the Sir Thomas Hotel and have to say that the experience was a complete disappointment

Notwithstanding the lack of festive atmosphere, the service was appallingly disorganised.

We were seated in the empty restaurant for forty minutes without our drinks order being taken (the waiter that earlier offered to take our order had disappeared). I finally gave up and ventured to the bar. Whilst waiting, the barman walked off and I looked around to see he was at the table trying to serve the wrong meals.

I appreciate that mistakes happen, but I didn't like being accused of not remembering what we'd pre-ordered. It was only after I produced the email containing our selection that he conceded the error wasn't on our part. On the plus side, we finally got to order drinks!

Eventually the waiter reappeared to tells us that the kitchen had prepared meals for the wrong party and that ours would be out in a couple of minutes. The starters arrived at the same time as the pre-dinner cocktails - not great.

We weren't asked how the food was (it was actually pretty good), if we needed anything else, etc. You could possibly forgive this in a busy restaurant, but there was only one other table occupied.

The biggest frustration is that despite addressing these issues with the events team I'm still to receive a response - Good food, let down by poor service.

“Looks good from outside, badly let down inside”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

Exterior of the hotel looks very plush and entering the bar first impressions were good however after ordering drinks and sitting down we found alot of the couches to be heavily marked and other had seats where stuffing exposed things the dim lighting in the bar hides well to start with - the room (203) was not as advertised on booking and didnt look to have been cleaned properly we found crumbs from biscuits or a pot noodle in a draw and stood on plastic tags from packaging that was left on the floor - what was more offputting was the grey hair my boyfriend found on his hair the next morning after sleeping in a bed that obviously hadnt been changed from the previous occupants (we both have dark hair) the carpets were marked in the hallway and the whole building looked a little neglected with work and cleaning required in most parts. We wouldnt stay here again and would advise others to rethink before booking at this hotel there are much nicer in the same brilliant central location.
Breakfast was standard english and well presented.

Room Tip: choose different hotel :)

“In the middle of everything”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

We had a wonderful stay at Sir Thomas when visiting Liverpool this time.
It's close to Matthew Street, Docklands and Liverpool One. It's a small and cosy hotel, felt a little like home.
Serviceminded and helpful staff,
Beds were fine and we slept very good. Traditional breakfast, no higher standard.
