“Pleasantly Suprised!”

After staying in a tiny hotel room in London, we weren't expecting much at this hotel as it was half the price we paid in London. We had just done the tour of The Beatles Houses with National Trust and ended up at Liverpool Airport (John Lennon) We asked at the little info center there and they rang this hotel for us. This was our first time in Liverpool and didn't know the area at all. We were greeted with a very warm welcome, all the staff were very friendly in fact. Breakfast was excellent, the room was a decent size and very clean. They even organised safe storage for our rental car nearby. It was only about a 15 minute walk into the center of the city, we walked to "The Cavern" night club both nights we stayed.
Liverpool people were noticabley friendlier than the other cities we have stayed in so far in the UK.

“Still a great value in Liverpool”

We stayed here two years ago and it was a no-brainer to return for our longer visit this year. The people who work there are very helpful. The breakfast offerings are a wide variety of cooked and continental choices. This time I was able to make reservations ahead of time and had an en-suite double. It was up three flights of stairs, but very spacious and the daily maid service kept the room clean. The free wifi was also very good.

“Convenient and reasonably priced”

My wife and I stayed at the Aachen Hotel, Mount Pleasant, Liverpool for 4 nights from Mon.13 - Thurs, 16 June 2011. We found the hotel an easy 5 minute walk from Lime Street Station, and within a 15 minute walk of all the places we visited (shopping centre, Albert Dock, Beatles Story museum, Tate Liverpool, Mersey Ferry terminal, Cavern Club, Walker Art Gallery, RC and Anglican Cathedrals).
The Hotel itself was warm (but not too warm), served an excellent breakfast each morning, the staff were welcoming and friendly, and our room was clean, comfortable and fairly quiet (despite it's proximity to the city centre, the only night-time sounds that occasionally disturbed us was that of the odd seagull!).
The only other places to stay (that I am aware of) with such good access to the attractions in which we were interested were either fairly up-market hotels which appeared to be aimed at the business traveller (or visitors more affluent than ourselves) or hostel type accommodation perhaps more geared towards students/ backpackers.
We were very happy with our choice, would recommend it to others, and had a smashing visit to Liverpool.

“Overpriced and seedy”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 May 2011

Parts of this hotel have been updated, such as the bathrooms and the dining room. These are clean and well-tended. The room that I stayed in, however, was in desperate need of refurbishment. The electrical outlets crackled when I plugged something in. The sheets were quite literally threadbare and even had a few holes. And the mattress was lumpy and old. Overall, the room felt like someone had refurbished it in the 70s with a great deal of effort, and since then hadn't done anything whatsoever.

The wifi was spotty, and the "pub" in the lobby wasn't ever actually staffed in the evening.

“Convenient but Average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 May 2011

We stayed here for 3 nights on a leisure break to the City. The location of this hotel was ideal for us as it was walkable from the station and relatively walkable to the town and dock area.

The building is very old and that is reflected in some areas. We only experienced one of the guest rooms (triple en-suite) so can only comment on that. The room was really too small to be a triple, it would have been more comfortable as a double or twin but even that would have been tight. We were at the back of the hotel, which may have made it a little quieter as Mount Pleasant is quite a busy road.

The room was reasonably clean, although there was a hair in the shower that was there when we arrived and still there when we left. The kettle looked like someone had try to brew tea in it - it was all brown and stained. Both the bedroom door and the shower room door squeaked - loudly - WD40 is not expensive and is easily administered! The shower room had obviously been recently refurbished but not quite finished - the door purchased was pre-primed but not painted and had been left as such (therefore finger marks were prevalent and not removable), the wooden door step to the shower room was bare wood. The showerroom itself was extremely small and did take a bit of manoeuvring around for one person at a time. The window catch was broken or badly needed adjustment which meant the window didn't shut properly, as it was very windy during our stay, it made the room quite draughty. The double bed was quite uncomfortable and my husband took to sleeping in the single bed instead, so that we could both turn over without disturbing the other.

It was reasonably quiet at night except the drunken serenading outside in the street which appeared to be a regular occurrence.

On the plus side, the beds were made every day and fresh towels were provided. The staff were generally friendly and helpful and the breakfast was very good and always hot and freshly prepared.

On the whole, not bad for location and breakfast and a very short stay.
