I've stayed at 10+ hostels in the past few years and I'm by no means picky, but this was the WORST by a long shot. They advertise the location as being an "easy walk" from the coach station and other central transportation hubs. In fact, it's a fairly confusing and not entirely pedestrian-friendly route, especially with a large bag or backpack--I ended up having to take a cab. Upon arrival, the staff seemed friendly enough, if, perhaps, a bit inept. The man working the reception desk assigned me to a bed that was already occupied and the room was absolutely disgusting. The carpet was freshly stained, as was the bathroom. To top it all off the toilet seat was detached from the actual bowl, which made for a nasty surprise. I stayed during the winter, and the room was freezing, even with the thermostat turned all the way up. Because the hostel is quite a hike from most of the cafes and restaurants, I tried ordering soup one night, and it came with a 45 minute wait, because the same man at reception forgot to tell the chef I was waiting for the order. Needless to say, I'd NEVER choose to stay here again.

We stayed in a private ensuite room for three nights at Liverpool YHA. We were impressed by the clean room, comfortable bed and generous affordable breakfast. The hostel is conveniently located close to Albert Docks and the city centre. The carpets, bathrooms and kitchens are beginning to look a little dated but if you go in with no expectations then you will find yourself pleasantly surprised. It got a little rowdy on a Saturday night but thankfully the rooms were quiet and we did not hear anyone getting back early in the morning. There were a range of ages staying at the hostel and very helpful staff. The only disadvantage is that you have to pay for Internet, but there are so many wifi hotspots in the city that it did not matter. A great place to stay in Liverpool!

Location was great, staff friendly, clean and tidy including room and amenities.
Can't fault this place.

I stayed for 2 nights when coming up to watch the Judo championships at the Echo Arena.

Good Points
- The YHA is very well located for all the events and museums around the Riverside and is only a 20 minute walk right into the heart of Liverpool
- The staff were all very friendly and helpful
- Everything was very clean

Negative Points
- In my room my bedside light was not working and the cupboard doors wouldn't shut properly
- The breakfast was poor quality and over-priced. There was little choice and most of the 'hot' food such as the bacon and eggs were colder than the 'cold' foods such as the yoghurts!

Apart from the breakfast, though, it was a really good place to stay.
