“Very good but with some room for improvement”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

We stayed here on a Friday night before an early Liverpool match. We had a great room on the 6th floor overlooking the docks and the little sofa area in the rooms was a nice touch. The beds were comfortable also and staff were friendly. I see some people have said its a bit away from the nightlife, but I think that depends what you're into. There was a great little historic bar right beside it and the docks are five minutes away, so we were happy enough.
I would agree though with the comments about the sliding doors in the bathroom. They don't give much privacy.
The strangest aspect was the breakfast however. It comes inclusive in I think all packages and is a bit of an ordeal. It's not so much the quality, which was average, but more the fact that they struggled to accommodate everyone (we could only find stools in the reception/bar area, edged on to someone else's table). It really was a free for all and the buffet area was a mess with kids, pushy parents, hungover lads on stag parties etc barging around making for a not very enjoyable experience. It was more like a youth hostel than a hotel. This wasn't helped by the fact that it ended at 10am, which probably led to a rush of people from 9.30onwards and I can't see why they just don't extend to midday. Overall, for room quality and views, it was great, but they'd need to sort out the breakfast situation before I'd stay again.

“Good location, clean, comfortable!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

Stayed here for one night as I got a very good deal. Always wanted to go to Liverpool and read about the perfect location of this hotel. Unfortunately it was extremely windy whilst we were there and the hotel's close proximity to the Mersey meant it was wind beaten and the wind was howling and hissing through the windows all night which prevented me from having a good night's sleep (not really the hotel's fault though).

Check-in was timely and friendly, the room nicely furnished and clean. I have stayed in the Hampton By Hilton at Liverpool Airport before and I must say that the rooms are a lot larger there than at the city centre location! Still, for one night perfectly adequate. The only thing I don't like is the sliding door which is for the bathroom and the wardrobe. Doesn't really offer much privacy and it is very prone to smudgy fingerprints. The housekeeping staff must curse the designer(s) of this contraption on a daily basis!!

The hotel is located opposite Albert Dock but most of the area was inaccessible due to the crazy weather. Very short walk to Liverpool One with its many shops, restaurants and bars. If the weather is poor, I would recommend getting a taxi from the hotel into the city centre. It cost us a mere £2.80 or something thereabouts.

Breakfast is what it is. Not great but not really as dreadful as some reviewers on here make it sound to be. Just have low expectations and you will be ok.

All in all a great hotel for a visit to Liverpool, especially if arriving by car. There is a clean, brightly lit underground car park with plenty of spaces and direct access to the hotel lobby via the lift.

Room Tip: When extremely windy ask for a room facing away from Albert Dock!

“Excellant hotel”

My husband and i stayed here in november 2011 and found this hotel excellant. We had a higher floor room so the view across Albert Dock was fantastic. The rooms are really stylish and of a very high standard, they are also spotless. We were also very impressed with the bathroom(especially the shower).
It is only a 5/10 minutes away from liverpool one so no need for taxi's as we walked everywhere.
Having stayed at The Crown Plaza 3 weeks later,we found that it didnt come anywhere near as good as the Hampton even though the price was almost double what we had paid to stay here.
All in all we found this hotel excellant and we will defiantly be returning again soon.

“Hen weekend”

Hotel was great very comfortable and clean. Was a bit to far away from night life but we had no problems getting taxis. The hotel did warn us about the steps leading up to the hotel.. tapered steps. My advice is when getting out the taxi make sure your feet are on the floor before you take a step because if you dont you will go flying!! not very safe at all. The breakfast setup was very good with pleanty of choices.

“A mixed bag of good and not so good”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

I am an experienced business traveller that stays in hotels of this type at least 40-50 nights a year in the UK, US and Europe. I stayed 3 nights on business at the Hampton by Hilton Liverpool City Centre in January 2012. The reason I booked this hotel in preference to others I have used in Liverpool was the promise of (what I thought was free) on-site parking. Indeed the parking is on-site (very convenient, ample parking in the basement) but although there was no mention of a fee for parking on the hotel website it cost £8.50/day which is in line with the discounted rates you get at other hotels in Liverpool. However the others typically require you to leave your car in a "nearby" NCP or similar car park which is less than ideal.

As others have said, the rooms are of a good standard with an OK queen size bed in my room and a sofa bed that looked like it might have been OK too (didn't try it) if travelling with kids. Some other hotel chains could learn from this. Also, the bathroom was very well done and the staff were very good.

However, the bad... I believe this is quite a new hotel and I couldn't believe how noisy the room was. I was on the side facing the main road and the double glazing did a poor job of reducing the road noise but that was the least of it when the couple in the room next door got "romantic". I'll leave readers to figure that out for themselves but suffice to say, little was left to the imagination because the walls are not sufficiently sound-proof in my opinion. Also, the breakfast was pretty poor if you ask me. I have never seen granular scrambled eggs before but, given that I was there for 3 days, I have to say that they were consistently granular every day along with poorly cooked bacon and greasy sausages. I've never really figured out why a rubbish breakfast is OK because it's free (included).

Overall, I'd say there are better hotels within walking distance of Albert Dock at the same or even slightly cheaper prices than this one.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the side away from the main road
