“Home from Home”

Having originally been born in Lincoln and know the Bailgate area where the hotel is situated very well, whenever I visit my home county I always stay at D'Isney Place. This is not only because of the fabulous location, in the Bailgate but not amongst the tourists, but also because of the cosy, private, homely and sumptuous feeling you get from walking through the door. I would describe it as a small boutique hotel / B&B with special touches. I have stayed in four different rooms and each one has had its own character, with antique furnishings, large comfy bed and wonderful view of the walled garden. The staff are well educated and very welcoming and the traditional english breakfast reminds me of what my grandmother used to serve up, Lincolnshire sausages, local eggs, hot tea, fruit all on bone china crockery. The fact that this is served in your room along with the daily paper at exactly the time you requested just adds to the charm and hospitality.

“Romantic”

Further to reading one of the previous reviews, we booked this hotel for the very reason that there were no communal areas.

We had a four poster room with a jacuzi bath and shower. The room was large and comfortable. The bed was lovely and comfy. The jacuzi was huge and good fun.

I think they forgot our fresh flowers. The room could have done with sprucing up. The chair seats were a bit stained.

Breakfast was delivered to our room and it was tasty and a good size. The staff we saw were friendly.

The car park was tiny and already full when we arrived so we had to park at the pay and display just down the road.

I think that the hotel literature is a little too gushing and a little work (not much) is required before they can completly live up to their claims. I would describe it more as a posh B & B than a hotel at present. The room rates are a little high and I would say our room should have been no more than £100 for the services provided.

It is a nice hotel, and convenient for the nicer old part of Lincoln. I would stay again.

A work to the wise, when you leave the hotel, turn right and head for the old part of Lincoln on the hill. You will find nice pubs/bars and restaurants and quaint shops here as well as the Castle and Catherdral.

The chinese is tasty and has a certain charm in a 1970's chinese restaurant type of way. The service is excellent and very friendly.

What ever you do, DO NOT turn left when you leave the hotel. Don't go to Lincoln main town. It is a CHAV hell hole!!! Vile.

“Quite disappointing hotel - although good location”

The web site looked quite good but upon arrival I was VERY disappointed with our room. Strange, mis-matched decor with thread bare chairs.
It didn't really feel like a 'proper' hotel as there were no communal areas - the only place to go was your own room.
Breakfast was served in the room and wasn't particularly appertizing or filling.
The only redeeming feature was that it's location. 1 minute walk away from Cathedral.

“Fine Hotel, Superb Staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2005

We found the D'Isney to be in an excellent location, the room was spacious and light, and the staff was tops. And the room-service breakfast was an especially nice touch!
Perhaps a story will illustrate our loyalty to Lincoln and its people.
My wife and I consider Lincoln Cathedral to be, along with Durham and York, the finest in England. And we always make it a practice to attend as many choral services as possible when we visit. On our last night in Lincoln my wife left her leather waist-wallet on a canonical seat in St. Hugh's Choir after Evensong. We had to catch a plane to Edinburgh the next morning and the Cathedral was closed for the night when she discovered her loss. The D'Isney staff took over: they located the purse the next morning and dispatched to us promptly. And they did it with grace and care.

“It was a nice hotel.”

The good points.... The hotel is lovely, clean, brilliant friendly staff. They are new owners and trying hard to please. The garden is huge and beautiful, you can sit outside with a drink and see the cathedral close by. You have to walk down steep hill to the shops. There are pub meals and hotel restaurants really close by.
What we didn't like was the room was quite small but adequate, and the breakfast was about big enough for a child! You also eat in your room, but that was ok just the 'lack' of food!! I'm sure the owners would be horrified to hear that! Would try somewhere else next time.
