“Lovely hotel in a historic city”

I booked this hotel on recommendation from a friend for my fiance and I. We booked a queen suite.
When we arrived to our room we were a bit dissapionted not to have a Cathedral view so i went down to reception, a very helpful man offered us a wedding suite for a little extra money which was well worth it. The wedding suite was amazing with a huge bathroom and seperate living area and big views over the cathedral.
Breakfast was fantasic with a great choice for a 3* hotel. They offer things like eggs bendict and smoked salmon which you would not see in many 3*.
We ate in the restaurant one evening which was nice. Good service and good food. The price was a little steep but worth it.
The bar is great with a huge selection of cocktails!
So overall a good experience and I would recommend this hotel.
One thing I must say is ive seen a few reviews on here about this hotel and complaints about the loud cathederal bells - what do you expect being near a cathederal! ;-)

“A special place in a great setting”

Stayed for one night as a romantic treat and really enjoyed our stay. The room wasn't one overlooking the cathedral but it was lovely - spotless, very comfortable bed and spacious. The bathroom was a little cold, as the towel rail wasn't working, and needed a bit of TLC. We really enjoyed our restaurant meal - food was excellent, although the service let it down a bit. Staff seemed disorganised and inexperienced but keen to please. We had a similar experience at breakfast - although, again, the food was delicious. The star of the show was the helpful man on the reception desk. Parking was no problem - their own car park is opposite the hotel and we were allowed to leave it there for the day while we went shopping, even though we had checked out. We note a fellow traveller's remark about the loud cathedral bell - but we loved being so close. We guess it's not the right place to stay if you don't like cathedrals, bells and all! We would definitely stay here again.

“A disappointing hotel in a wonderful city”

This hotel used to be in the 1980s Forte Heritage group, and clearly has not been refurbished since. Threadbare carpets, dysfunctional radiators and broken double-glazing let down what could be a first-rate historic coaching inn. Modernization of the bar area means no cosy lounge, and loud muzak.

Room Tip: Do not be deceived into asking for a room with view of the cathedral. These rooms also face the gene...

“Great location, very comfortable hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 December 2011

I just stayed at the White Hart for Christmas Eve.

Let me start by saying there's no better place to be around Christmas. You step outside the hotel and are in the heart of one of the most beautiful spots in all England with the 900 year old cathedral on one side and the roman castle on the other.

The hotel is old and creaky, but the rooms are comfortable, and the staff very friendly (the front desk staff in particular are superb). Parking is very convenient. The decor in the main hotel is slightly disappointing - it's modern hotel clean, rather than old coaching inn cosy.

One tip - ask for a room with a view of the cathedral - it's spectacular, but be aware, the bells are very noisy first thing!

Overall for price, location and friendliness, this hotel comes highly recommended.

Room Tip: Rooms with a view of the cathedral are spectacular, but loud in the morning!

“A charming hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2011

I have just returned from my second stay in the White hart and, once again, I thoroughly enjoyed the visit. The location of the hotel is in the Cathedral quarter of Lincoln, which is the most historic and prettiest part of the city. There is an abundance of interesting shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants in the immediate vicinity and a 10 minute walk down the aptly named "Steep Hill" takes you to the city centre and all that Lincoln has to offer.
Parking can be a problem in Lincoln and a major bonus is that the White Hart, which is a historic old coaching inn, has a private car park just opposite the hotel. As previously mentioned by another reviewer, the public rooms are relatively modern and, as such, are unremarkable and I could never understand why anyone would choose to spend time drinking in the hotel bar, which is just like any other hotel bar, when there are literally dozens of cosy little pubs in the surrounding streets.
The restaurant Grill Room is spacious and comfortable and both the food and the service are top notch - including the excellent breakfast, which as well as being plentiful and delicious is cooked fresh to order as opposed to the ubiquitous buffet that most hotels seem to favour these days. Certainly if maintaining a traditional system of ordering breakfast from a menu and having it freshly cooked is deemed old fashioned - then long may the White Hart continue bucking the trend.
For me the crowning glory of this hotel is the style of the bedrooms, which though modern and well appointed, are decorated and furnished in what I would call "old fashioned, floral comfort". The sort of rooms a rich granny might have had when you were a kid. On both my visits the rooms have been large, very well appointed, spotlessly clean and well decorated. They simply ooze charm, and on our latest visit the room featured an old cast-iron fireplace, a walk-in wardrobe and a bathroom you could play a tennis match in. How much nicer than the stereotypical hotel rooms that you find in the top chain hotels - Hilton, Holiday Inn and the like, where the only way you can remind yourself where you are staying is to look at the headed notepaper. The White Hart is charmingly different and although we were only there for one night we would have loved to have stayed longer and will certainly return.
In short, the White Hart is a historic hotel in a wonderful location with quality service and stylish and comfortable rooms at an affordable price. What more could you ask?
