“Ideally Situated for the Historic Area of Lincoln”

Stayed 2 nights while attending my sons graduation at the Cathedral. As has been previously mentioned it sits right next to the Cathedral and is somewhat a blot on the landscape for that area, however you can't blame the hotel for that.
I believe it used to be a Post House hotel many many years ago and is classic 60's build...i.e. concrete, it has been updated inside and is well decorated and the rooms are pleasantly furnished.
We stayed in room 310 which is at the front of the hotel and had its own balcony, the room was clean and had a modern bathroom, the room had everything you would expect in a hotel these days. The only thing we had to ask for was an iron and ironing board and bottled water...i would have liked to see these supplied as a rule. The heating in the rooms is preset on a timer and the room did get a little hot at times. Be warned if you do stay at the front of the hotel you will be woken by the Cathedral bells!!!
Breakfast was ok, nothing to write home about, they did seem a little short handed in the mornings and one waitress seemed to be looking after everyone and she did this admirably. We would stay there again if we went to Lincoln due to the fact of its location to the more quaint area of the city.

Room Tip: Room 310 is where we stayed and was at the front and looked directly onto the Cathedral

“Overall a positive experience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

we stayed overnight on 20 Jan 2012, purely as a treat to ourselves, we only live 5 miles away, but wanted a night out without worrying about getting home again. My wife arranged everything, and booked a garden room which was very nice. In the summer they must be terrific, with access to a little patio overlooking a peaceful garden area. The room was of a reasonable size with a nice bathroom (stone floor - very cold!!) My wife chose the garden room because she asked for the biggest bed, I am 6 ft 4 ins, the room had an extra wide bed, which was two singles bolted together, but unfortunately was only 6 ft long so i spent the night very uncomfortably with my feet sticking out freezing! We ate dinner in the hotel, food was very good, and reasonably priced for the location, breakfast the next day was disappointing, not very warm, but plenty of food available. The location of the hotel is fantastic, right in the middle of historic Bailgate, and within touching distance of the Cathedral. Unfortunately the appearance of the Hotel spoils the local area, it is a concrete slab monstrosity from the 60's and is an absolute eyesore! On the inside they have tried to make it attractive, but it is still like the inside of an aging polytechnic, all concrete and stone stairwells, quite depressing. The staff were all very good, and we would probably stay again, we just would close our eyes when entering or leaving the hotel!

Room Tip: Garden room must be lovely in the summer (if you are less than 6 ft tall)!

“would stay again..but”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

stayed for 2 nights in a garden room which was very nice. The down side was that when we arrived, a wedding reception was taking place which made it difficullt manouvering ourselves and luggage through the guests to get to the desk to check in. We were asked to pay without even seeing the room, but what really peeved us was that we were charged 5 pounds for over-night parking, we questioned this and was told that all the hotels in Lincoln make a charge for parking.
The heating is obviously on a timer because it was off for both days from mid afternoon until 7p.m.ish we mentioned this and was provided with an electric heater.

We would stay again...but not if a wedding reception is taking place.

“new years eve to remember”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

We stayed at hotel for new years eve ball. Had a lovely balcony room with fantastic views of the cathedral. After a sumptuous 7 course dinner, we danced the night away at the new years eve party. Luckily breakfast next day was "brunch" style which allowed us a lie in. Brunch was great with an endless choice. Best of all was the welcome we received from the moment we checked in. Definately a new years eve to remember!!!

Room Tip: Balcony room with views of cathedral
