“Much better than the reviews suggested.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 June 2011

We booked the hotel before reading the reviews and so felt apprehensive about our visit. However, on arrival the manager Dave was very helpful. He knew we were going to be staying out late and had arrangements in place so we could get back into the hotel at any time. The hotel is well worn but our bedroom was clean, and had a good shower. We paid £45 for two people which included a full English breakfast. Excellent value. Would certainly stay again but the hotel is being converted to student accommodation later this year

“Awful”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2011

Although I accept this was very cheap I found it to be dirty, noisy (there was a tree branch outside my window which kept knocking in. When I tried to open the window to move it it was sealed by paint - not great health and safety wise).

The staff were very amenable but the only food on offer was a curry. It advertised a bar but this was shut.

I had to ask for a blanket as there was only a bed cover. However the room was warm.

On my arrival in the evening the water was stone cold and in the morning the same.

I would certainly not recommend this hotel.

“A centrally located Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 February 2010

The hotel (though advertised as a B&B) is small, homely, comfortable, warm and clean. It is all of 5 minutes walk from University of Leicester and De Montfort University, 7 minutes walk from the Midland Mainline train station (though it feels a little longer because of the small hill) and has the feel of being out-of-town while a stones throw from the centre!

Staff are friendly and helpful and although the stories about the decor of the small restaurant are true (Plasma screen TVs..) food and drink are good quality and service is excellent.

To round the entire review off there is a spa next door (Lime Spa) and opposite is the prestigious (but down-to-earth) Leicester Squash Club as well as Leicester's Victoria Park making for the biggest back yard of any hotel! Several family friendly english country pubs are also in the immediate vicinity giving it the out-of-town feel.....

“An inexpensive B & B in an out of town quiet location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 July 2009

The hotel appears to be in the process of upgrading its facilities and owned as part of the Montessori education group.
Our double en-suite was clean, well furnished, comfortable and quiet and together with our breakfast was good value for money.
We were attending a wedding based around the nearby university and just needed a comfortable convenient bed for the night at a reasonable price.

“I cant see what people have against it, we had a lovely stay!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 June 2009

After having booked we noticed all the bad reviews and though we would have to find somewhere else!!

I cant vouch for other rooms but we had number 18 (Curved bay window on 1st floor with en-suite shower and toilet). The room was spotless, we had fresh towels laid out with thought on our bed each day. (I will try and upload a photo) The staff were very friendly and courteous.

We thought we must have come to the wrong place, but we then saw the plasma TV in the breakfast room. Ok it was on but not loud, so you could easily talk over it. The breakfast was perfectly fine and more than adequate for our needs.

We were staying there as a base for the De Montfort hall and that was close by. Very pleasant stay and would readily come back again next year. Lots of parking and lovely building!!! Some people just love to moan I presume.
... Oh and the shower worked well too.
