“Something refreshingly different”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

After many stays in similarly priced hotels (around the £30 to £50 mark) such as Travelodges, Premier Inns and Holiday Inn Expresses, although usually very good they all become very 'samey'. The Campanile brand offerers something a little bit different but still the same standard if not slightly better. The French theme, with the very tasty biscuits left with the tea/coffee in the room along with the two little boilet mint/sweets are a nice touch. The bedding was very comfortable with extra pillows available in the wardrobe. The room had a nice new flat screen tv with the usual channels (not the full freeview range though like Premier Inn chain now offers). The best thing about the hotel was the free wifi in the room - something not even full service hotels provide! Front of house staff were very helpful and were able to accomodate my room choice. The other significant benefit with Campanile is the free breakfast, which offers a good range of the usual things you would expect. The Leicester hotel is probably one of the older ones looking at the new style of rooms on their website, however what is in place currently is very good so no complains whatsoever. Finally, the other major benefits are free parking and an exciting dinner menu with reasonable pricing. Only drawback I can think of is the road being quite loud outside if you're in a room facing it and there was no climate control - the room was quite warm on the top floor (Nov) but with the window open it made it quite difficult to hear the tv.

Room Tip: If you're a light sleeper consider asking for a room on the other side of the hotel not facing t...

“Cheap hotel, good location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2011

On first appearance, very clean and tidy professionally run establishment. Everything would have been perfect had it not been a 4 foot 6 bed, a very small but serviceable room. The extractor did not work in the bathroom causing serious fog everytime we used the shower.

A large group of us sat in the bar area and ordered a round of drinks at the bar, we were amazed to find they had no brandy, vodka or bacardi, as there was a group of 10 or more of us this was very embarrasing.

We booked the full english breakfast at a reasonable cost however the waitress service in the morning was very vague i.e we didn't know where to get coffee and toast and had to work it out for ourselves.

All in all if I had to give marks out of 10, I would give it a 6.

Room Tip: Not room 217

“Cheap hotel walking distance for shopping”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2011 via mobile

I stayed at this hotel for a night out clubbing (could see the club from the hotel) so can't comment on the noise from near by clubs. I arrived at 3pm lucky I did not drive as all the spaces was gone with 80% of the spaces gone to White vans who I guess are not staying at hotel and a staff member almost ran me over to park across 2 disabled spots. The room was nice and clean and can't complain about the free wifi easy to use. My bf tried 3 times to get a second pillow as was supplied with only 3 but the reception couldn't be bothered to come out of their office to serve him at the desk they even stared at us until we gave up. If you can over look the rudeness of the staff it's a lovely clean and cheap hotel only 5-10 min walk from shopping centers and 1 min walk from a good heavy metal club ( can't hear the music outside the club so shouldn't disturb those in the hotel)

“Pleasant, cheap stop-over in Leicester”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2011

Having stayed here for a night earlier in the year and getting remarkable value for money, decided on a two night stay whilst visiting daughter in Uni. Although not the most central of locations, easy enough to find and about 5 mins drive from the main shopping area. Staff levels are somewhat similar to an Aldi or Lidl where everyone seems to be multi-tasked; quietly efficient and friendly. Rooms are clean and compact with flat screen TV, tea/coffee making facilities and free wi-fi. Bathroom had a shower but no bath, towels were fine and importantly, water was piping hot throughout the day. Parking as has been mentioned previously can be a bit hit and miss as the car park does fill up late in the day although having said that, I was OK. I've tried the restaurant before and the food has been excellent for the price you pay - didn't use the facilities this time around, but there were certainly plenty of other guests making good use of the restaurant. Only minor gripes were that the bed was extremely soft (personal opinion) and that the room was very warm even though the radiators were off - I was on the 3rd floor so, benefitted/suffered (?) from the the floor below. The key question is would I stay here again? Absolutely.

“Oh dear!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 September 2011

I usually use the Premier Inn in Oadby but it was full. I booked into the Campanile and what a disappointment. First of all the disabled parking bays were filled with white vans with, surprisingly enough, no blue badges. Despite pointing this out to the receptionist and her knowing who the drivers were, nothing was done. My son helped me to the room, washed his hands and came out with a stained towel which he took down to reception and changed. After getting back to the room on my own, found stains on the carpet, mould in the shower, stained sheets and duvet cover (aaaaaaaagh!), TV didn't work properly and the clock was incorrect, beeping noise in the corridor all night, hairdryer cutting out and fizzing, night porter insisting I walked some way to get my own tea bags because he had to stay behind the desk when it was obvious he had just been outside for a cigarette. As I have a walking stick, doesn't take a genius to understand walking could be problematic. Mattress in worse condition than the one in my son's student house. Final straw, in the morning thought I saw a caterpillar on the carpet and it was a false eyelash. The only redeeming feature was the extremely pleasant girl that came up to the room to check out my complaint and offered me a complete refund which, as I hadn't slept and was unable to book another hotel at 1am, was reasonable. Cheaper than the Premier Inn but really poor standard; I have stayed in Campaniles in France and they are usually spotless and very acceptable. Will not be returning needless to say.

Room Tip: No idea. Try to choose a clean one.
