“Great staff, but no heating on a cold night”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

THe hotel is well-located and very handy from a business point of view. Nearby restaurants include the fantastic vegetarian newcomer Shivalli. Staff were really friendly and helpful.
But the maintenance at this hotel is shoddy. The room was spacious enough but you get there through a maze of corridors and if you are on the executive floor (5th), there is no lift service after the 4th floor. They were obliging enough to carry my luggage up though there was no porter on duty (so just a helpful staff member obliged). The room was quiet. But the hotel management does not leave the heating on at night. So it was frightfully cold given the miserable weather at this time of the year. There was no advance warning that the hotel does not offer round-the-clock heating and hot water and got me this was a really horrid night to spend after paying approximately £100. Unless they change this policy, I would not recommend visiting this hotel especially in the Winter

Thank you for taking the time to post a review.

My team are great and I am glad you recognised that during your stay.

Having discussed your posting with my Front Office Team it has become apparent that a portable heater was offered however this was declined. We have since reviewed the heating times and have extended this during the very cold nights.

Once again thank you for posting a review.

“A Grand Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2011

Revisting Leicester where we lived 20+ years ago we chose the Mercure ( Formerly the Grand Hotel) as its very central. Parking on site was £5 for a nights stay.
The Hotel is an old Hotel dating back about 100 years and has some nice touches in high ceilings, big staircases etc.
The room we had at £55 was clean , tidy ,had TV , tea and coffee etc and a huge bathroom ( half the size of the room) on third floor and out back so v quiet.

Staff v friendly and a great place to stay - out front door , turn left and 5 mins you are in the heart of Leicester.

Recommend Rutland and Derby pub on millstone lane ( 5 min walk) recently refurbished - it has adelicatessen in it, Pierre Victoire french restuarant, and The Goose on Hotel St ( all nearby) beer at £2-20 a pint

Great hotel, greta city.......................great!!!!

“Hotel fine but breakfast was cold, and no one cared....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2011 via mobile

We have stayed in the hotel before on nights out in Leicester and it has always been okay but this was our first stay under the new name. The room was fine but when we went for breakfast it was cold, £27 for two for cold fried eggs..... When we complained to our waitress, she dismissed our complaint with 'I didn't cook it'. If you stay here, I suggest you walk outside the hotel to one of the many cafes for a hot cooked breakfast.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review. I am aware of the issue you had with breakfast and I sincerely apologise for the waitress's response. I can assure you this is not the normal high level of service we provide and the appropriate action will take place with the individual involved.

I have noted you have stayed many times before and if you are considering staying again may I ask you to contact myself direct so I can personally make the necessary arrangements to ensure you receive our mormal high level of customer service.

“Great if you dont want to drink-drive home from the pubs and clubs”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 November 2011

Not sure where to begin.... Room so tiny that the door brushes the desk when opened, and we needed to move a lamp to store a carry-on sized bag; hard, stiff mattress in which one feels every single pointy achey spring; 8 channels of TV (only 4 of which actually come in); now, given that we paid only about £55 for a night here, I actually could probably have lived with that. Small rooms, I can deal with, especially in the UK and Europe, and I've had poor TV programming every time I've gone to Vegas. The bed, however, was really sub-standard; memory foam topper would probably help (or perhaps a chiropractor now).

But the kicker was the wave after wave of Partiers/clubbers singing in the hallways as if it were an X-Factor audition. Having been woken up 4 times between 12:30-3 am, I'd have to say that you can hear every little thing that happens in the halls.

Oh and no air cond which I also know is common in Europe but if there's no AC could the window kindly open more than 2 inches?

Memorable for all the wrong reasons. If you are looking for a cheap place to crash after a night on the town, then this is your ticket. For anything else, try the Premier Inn up the street.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review.

All of bedrooms are of a different size and shape. Most of which are in the larger catagory.

I was disappointed to read that some of the other guests disturbed you during the night. We do not tollerate such behaviour and should this been reported to our night team I am confident this would have been acted upon immediately.

I do hope you will return and give us the opportunity to provide a genuine hassle free stay.

“Room for improvement”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2011

I booked a couple of days beforehand directly on their website and got two confimation emails (one in French...). On arrival I was told I had no booking and that my confirmation code (on their email) was not valid. Was somehow made to feel it was my fault...
After being re-booked I had an average room with a tired bathroom.
Be aware, there are many chargeable extras. You'll have to pay extra to park your car, extra for the internet etc.
Overall, in need of a bit of a refurb / tidy up.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review.

The booking was made however the interface between our system and the site you booked on had gone down hence the reason it did not show on arrival. I was disappointed you where made to feel it was your fault and please accept my sincere apologies for this. As you can see from most reviews my team are generally very attentive and handle most problems efficiently.

We are in the heart of Leicester City and at £5 per night car parking we are great value compared to our competitor who by in large charge more.

WiFi is complimentary in our lounge and bar. We as a company are looking currently at adding this to the bedrooms also.
