After reading some of the reviews on here, we were concerned to say the least. We were expecting the Hammer House of Horrors and a complete dump... but since it only cost us £48 for two nights en suite B&B we realised that we would probably get what we paid for.
I wouldn't say we were "pleasantly" surprised but it was definitely better than we had expected after reading the terrible reviews on this site. Don't be fooled by the name, it's definitely not a hotel, more a Guest House.
The couple who run the place are in their 70's and were really welcoming and lovely. The room itself was quite small and a bit damp smelling but it was warm and clean. We had a TV/DVD with Freeview which is more than we got at the so called Boutique Hotel we stayed at last year (which cost us twice the amount!).
Breakfast was GORGEOUS. We had a choice of Kellogg's cereal's, a pot of tea, orange juice, as much toast as we could eat and then a huge Full English breakfast.
There is a little dog (Toby) there who was very yappy for about 2 minutes when we arrived but then became best friends with us after making a bit of a fuss of him.
The Harbour is right next to the Pleasure Beach but a real walk from the night life as it's down past the South Pier and took us about 40 minutes to walk the 2.5 miles to the Tower. So if you are going there for the nightlife, you will need a taxi, especially if you are in heels!! (you should see my blisters lol). Book private hire though as the Hackney Carriage's are not cheap! Cost us £6.50 to go 2 miles. Private hire was £4.
All in all, it's a far cry from the Ritz, but for the price, you get what you pay for. Recommended if only for the delicious breakfast!!
