“Shabby Treatment. & Shabby Room.”
Just returned from a 3 day stay at The Berwick B&B. Been there twice before, with no complaints. This time however, was a different story. Made 3 phone calls before booking,plus, looked on their website and chose the room we wanted. The owner, Yvonne, was very friendly as before, and assured us that the requested Double room was ours. So we paid £50 deposit to secure it. 4 weeks before the date of our stay. On arrival we were told that the room we had booked, had been given to someone else. Her reason for this was because one of the people had a disability, and needed to be on the first floor. Wasn't pleased at all. After we Requested, and was Guaranteed that particular room by e mail. Yvonne said, quite abruptly, that she had the right to move people about at will, to suit herself. We ended up in a Twin room, on the same floor, NEXT DOOR, 3 Feet Away, from the Double room, we had put our deposit on. We later found out that we were ousted from our intended room because of Greed. the other couple who wanted the room, and booked well after us. booked an extra day, so were given preference. The room itself, where we ended up, was Dated, the carpet was Old, Grubby, with Ground in Dirt, and in the toilet area , was an odour or urine. we kept quiet about it at the time, not wanting to cause any embarrassment, or indeed, not to upset other holidaymakers. On our return home, sent an e mail outlining our feelings and views of our treatment, and the sub standard room. We were told we had " Exacting needs, and that No other hotel would Pamper us like they had" WHAT A JOKE ! If that is their idea of Pampering, it Certainly Wasn't Ours. In this case 3rd Time Wasn't Lucky. WILL NOT RETURN !!!!

We welcome comments, good and bad, from all our guests as listening to what they have to say is an excellent way of improving our standards, which we have done and will continue to do every year.
We are extremely sorry these particular guests were unhappy about a room change that was made to accommodate a couple with mobility problems and other booking commitments, a point that was explained in great detail at the time, and not on a whim of the owners or for 'greed'.
It is a pity this couple have deemed it necessary to exaggerate the facts about the room they stayed in and also taken comments made by the owner out of context.
However, we have attached a photograph of the room in question, which, in these guests opinion, was "unfit for anyone to stay in", so that other readers to this site can make their own judgement.
