“Couldn't believe the good value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

We stayed at the New Kent in late November. The annual Blackpool Illuminations had finished and our visit was for the purpose of simply spending a whole day in the Tower Ballroom. We had decided, at short notice, to stay for two nights so that we could have a full day with no travel - apart from the hotel to the Tower and back. There were four of us, two couples, all over 60.

The owner, Joanne, welcomed us at 7pm on the first evening. We had a very pleasant, comfortable and warm lounge to ourselves each evening (Blackpool isn't at it's busiest late November), comfortable rooms, as much breakfast as we could wish for and all with a smile - big hotels please note!! We plan to return in the early spring and again after Easter when the new trams are in service.

We have given 5/5 in all but one category and would have given that one 5/5 if the room had been in a more conventional layout. Having said that, there were some really neat storage ideas which other hotels could do with adopting!

Well done Joanne!

“Nice little B&B, fantastic breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2011

The welcome on arrival was friendly and our room was small but clean and confortable. Parking was on the street in front of the hotel but unrestricted and free. Our family room had a bunk bed and a double bed with a small en-suite shower room, tea and coffee making facilities were provided. Storage in the room was rather limited, fine for our weekend bag but probably a bit difficult if you had a couple of suitcases for a longer stop. Downstairs there was a large lounge with bar and gaes for the kids to play and another room where breakfast was served.

Breakfast was superb, cereals and fruit juice to start and then a freshly cooked sausage, double bacon, fried bread, grilled tomato and fried egg and toast plus a self-service buffet with black pudding, mushrooms, beans and scrambled eggs. Service was friendly and prompt.

There was some noise outside until late on Friday night from the pub up the road (it was very warm and so we had the windows open which didn't help), on the Saturday the noise finsihed about 11:00pm. The only other negative was the saniflow toilet which made nightime loo visits rather noisy.

The hotel is situated well out of the hustle and bustle of Blackpool itself (a positive) and quite a walk along the front to the north pier (took us about 45 mins with kids), but there is a tram stop right at the end of the road and for £9 you could get a family day pass for all buses and trams. There is a mini-market just along the road, cheaper for drinks, sandwiches and snacks than shopping in town.

All in all I would recommend this hotel to families on short breaks and would happily re-book if going to Blackpool again.

“The hosts were fantastic!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2011 via mobile

If you happen to go on a trip to Blackpool, then this hotel is absolutely right for you! Joan and tony were magnificent as hosts. They make u feel welcome all throughout ur stay. The atmosphere is really homey. Plus, I got complete amenities already placed inside my room. And most of all, this hotel is situated conveniently around Blackpool's scenic and tourists spots. Surely, I got one terrific and unforgettable stay here.
