“dissappointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2010

looking at the website we expacted a modern airy room. Ours was the opposite, tired carpet, creaky floor very dated room. The people were nice enough but we felt a little in the way as they had family members for a birthday party and we were not informed of the changes in time for breakfast, as a result we had to ;eave without having eaten. Being out of season may have had an impact. I feel that the price we paid for just the bed was expensive. Possibly a lovely place if what you see on the website is what you get.

“Lovely Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2010

Stayed here at the end of October with our 2 kids aged 12 and 9. We were the 'other room' in the review below and as noted, our room was good (TV worked!). Shower was a bit hit and miss but room was clean and tidy which is important.

Breakfast was great, lots of choice and service at all times was good. There is a good size bar with a pool table in a separate room which was good for the kids.

Location was good as a bit quieter.

“Good Value and worth the walk”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2010

2 Night stay (B&B) at the end of October school holidays so expected it to be mad busy but wasn't. Staff very friendly and accomodating. Our family room was on the top floor (floor 3) with 1 double, 1 single and 1 Z bed which creaked and groaned like an asmatic. The room had an electric shower which was ok, but as ever with these things you do have to run around the shower to get wet, but it all worked fine. Our friends had anoher family room on floor 1 which was very large and much better.
The TV in our room was tempremental, it either had a picture and no sound or sound and a frozen picture! The signal strength was the problem.
Breakfast was good and plentifull and the service was great. The Hotel is a 10minute walk to the Pleasure Beach, from the Lytham St Annes end so to get to the central area is a good hike or taxi/tram ride. No problems for us as we didn't want to go there (Chav avoidance strategy in place) Overall worth going to.

“Family Weekend”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2010

Just returned from a 2 night family weekend stay at the Carn Brae, i had trawled the internet searching for a decent hotel for our planned trip and struggled to get what we wanted.
The Carn Brae came up in my search & the website looked very good the hotel picture looked great and very modern & the room picture looked very modern also.
We arrived at the hotel & was allowed to check in early and the staff were very friendly we had 2 rooms one double & a family room when we entered our rooms they was nothing like the pictures on the website.
The walls & ceiling were papered with woodchip the carpet was old & the bed linen did not have the modern look that appeared in the website picture.
The location was ideal for us as we wanted to be out of the hussle & madness of the town and the hotel was clean & tidy but very basic the breakfast was very good with plenty of choice.
We spent sometime in Lytham & St Annes which was very nice much quiter than Blackpool with lots of coffee cafes, quaint shops & restaurants and beautiful quality hotels, if we ever visit again we would definately stop in a hotel here.
But for me the hotel did not match the cost of our stay £286 for 5 people looking around i am certain that we could of got better quality for our money.

“Perfect Stay in Friendly Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2010

Stayed here with my partner and two children - 11 and 6 - in a family room for three nights, and can't fault the break at all. Had a small problem with the kids beds as we got there, spoke to Ken in reception, and it was fixed without delay

The hotel sits about 10 mins walk South of the Pleasure Beach, so far enough out of the town to get away from it, but only a short bus/tram ride into Blackpool Centre. We didn't spend much of the day in the hotel as we were out and about, but were very impressed by how helpful everyone was. The drink prices in the bar are more than reasonable, and it's a lovely, large area. Ken even put the wii on the big screen in there to help keep the boys (and me!) entertained. There are a couple of fruit machines, a couple of arcade machines and a pool table

Breakfast is served at 9am and was fantastic. Plenty of fruit juice choice, fruit, prunes, lots of cereal and several cooked breakfast options, each of them (I think) being cooked on request with plenty on your plate to keep you ticking over through the day

All in all the Carn Brae is somwehere I'd highly recommend to anyone who fancies a quieter break out of town, with simple access to it when needed - thanks for a lovely time!!
