“Probably one of the better hotels”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

We stayed in this hotel last year for the first time and were really impressed, the staff were friendly, rooms clean and a great breakfast, the hotel bar was an added bonus too after a long day sightseeing. We decided to make a return trip earlier this month and didnt anticipate any problems. Our rooms were fine, nice and clean, big enough for the amount of time we planned to stay in it and the bathrooms were recently updated and were great. When we returned after seeing the illuminations we had a couple of drinks in the bar with a very lively bar man who was great entertainment. The drinks were really reasonably priced too. Unfortunatley that night the hotel was very noisy, with noise from the bar and also 2 different rooms. We were a party of 4 and our rooms were not close together but both experienced noise. Granted this is not the hotels fault but we decided to bring it to their attention, The lady who took our complaint was lovely and explained that we should complain to the owner when he returned from holiday ( he was the one who met us on our first trip and was a really great guy). We had another brilliant breakfast though, there is a lot of choice. I would return to this hotel but I think id make sure the owner was about to iron out any problems if they arose as the noise could probably have been delt with on the night.

“satisfactory”

We stayed for one night. The hotel is in an excellent location away from the hustle and bustle of the centre, around the corner from Red Bank Rd where there are plenty of nice places to eat. I agree with most of the comments, which are accurate and a fair representation.. The photos are a little flattering; the rooms we occupied were clean and quite pleasant but don't expect luxury or perfection. The breakfast room needs attention. It had the feel of a canteen. Tablecloths would be nice and our teapot leaked badly; attention to detail is lacking. I'm sure the breakfast is good if you get there early. It is served until 9.30; when we arrived at 9.15 the fried eggs were rock hard and had been there some time. I got the impression they were short staffed and cut corners, especially with cleaning. It was alright for one night but I've stayed in better for the same price.

“Unpleasant discovery”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2011

I was in a party which recently accommodated 3 twin rooms at the Windsor & Westmorland Hotel . The rooms were ok; nothing special but appeared (on the surface)clean and tidy. Facilities were basic, but there was no hair dryer or iron/ironing board which would have been useful. The white towels, neatly displayed on each bed had an unpleasant stale smell to them. Sadly sleep was difficult due to noisy fellow residents and an uncomfortable bed. However, the final straw and reason that I will never return to this hotel came at the end of the stay just as we were vacating the room. I moved the bed away from the wall to check that I had not forgotten something and discovered some very unpleasant evidence (I won't go into details) suggesting that the cleaning of the bedside floor area had not been addressed! This would also explain why the sheet was not tucked in and kept riding up during the night exposing a bare mattress. This reinforced my negative thoughts about the hotel. Blackpool was fun and I will return...but not to stay here!

“Not to be repeated!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2011

We stayed here for 2 nights. The whole place had a strong smell of fried food, even the towels! We left these out to be changed but the replacements were no better. Although the room had a sea view and had obviously recently been redecorated, the beds hadn't been replaced and both had seen better days.
When we checked in we weren't asked for our car keys even though we were blocking someone in, we handed them over anyway but the following morning another car was blocking someone in and the staff couldn't find the owner.
We only risked breakfast one day, it wasn't great and after waiting ages for tea and coffee we had to find someone to take our drinks order.
On the plus side although it is a long way from Blackpool, the tram stop is very close by and there are places to eat just round the corner, but we won't be visiting again.
