My wife and I booked a one night stay, dinner bed and breakfast for the night of 27th January. We picked the hotel because of it's close proximity to the Opera House where we were to see Billy Connolly. The hotel appears to cater for coach parties and people booking free bar packages. We arrived at 4.30pm and after checking in went to the bar. My wife doesn't drink and so asked for a cup or pot of tea, to be told they stop doing tea at 4pm!! and this is supposed to be a a quality hotel. We went in for dinner at 5.50pm 20 minutes after dinner started, to be faced with a luke warm buffet with food all dried up under the heating lights, the dining room smelled and looking round was quite dirty. Breakfast was just as bad. We asked after the concert on our return to the hotel for tea for my wife but were refused again and told to go to our room if we wanted tea.
We have never been to a hotel where this has happened before. The room was a good size and looked out over the sea, but with wallpaper hanging off the ceiling didn't really feel welcoming. The bed was extremely firm and next to no toiletries in the bathrrom.
This was our first stay at a Britannia Hotel and it will be the last.
Even though we only paid £102 for both of us, it was certainly not value for money.
