“Weekend break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

Booked this weekend through National Holidays. Excellent value for money.

We had booked a twin room and a single room. Rooms were fine, clean and comfortable.

Food was good, choice of 2 starters, 3 main courses and plenty of choice for dessert. Vegetarian meals available on request. Breakfast was very good, plenty of choice.

Hotel is ideally situated for Tower and most amenities.

Entertainment was ok. The singers and dancers tried hard but little response from audience.

Enjoyed our stay in Blackpool and would definitely use this hotel as a base again.

“excellent value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

After much consideration we decided to take a chance on the metropole, we had read the mixed reviews and were very apprehensive. However we decided to give it a go and were glad we did. We paid £120 for family of four for 2 nights dinner bed and breakfast.(Fri and Sat) It was a valentines weekend special and included champagne and chocolates. We found the hotel to be excellent value. Just remember it is a 2star hotel.

As other reviews have stated the decor tired and in need of refurbishment however our room (153) was a large family room with sea view which suited our needs. The bedding was crisp white and clean and beds comfortable. Our 1st night was slightly disturbed by creaking floor boards in room above but no problems 2nd night. Bathroom was a little disappointing and in need of updating but functional. Room warm with controllable radiator. tea and coffee provided. Small hairdryer and small portable tv in room.

All of the staff we encountered were polite and customer focused. Check in was quick. Many public areas of the hotel feel cold, so a cardigan is recommended. Food was ok, good choice of basic hot food and salad served on a buffet basis. You can ask for kids meals if they dont want the buffet food. good gateaux/pudding selection and icecreams. Service in restaurant was excellent. Entertainment was basic but singers and dancers gave good performances and kids enjoyed the quiz which was reasonably easy.

Overall good value, we needed a base for visiting the pleasure beach and this was by far the cheapest accomodation we could find. Although it is a long walk to the pleasure beach. We also got free parking however i believe there is going to be a £3 per day charge shortly. We would definately go back and would recommend it as a cheap basic hotel with friendly staff.

Room Tip: family rooms WITHOUT bunk beds are larger. Ask for top floor if creaking floor boards will disturb y...

“Poor hotel even for the money”

My wife and I booked a one night stay, dinner bed and breakfast for the night of 27th January. We picked the hotel because of it's close proximity to the Opera House where we were to see Billy Connolly. The hotel appears to cater for coach parties and people booking free bar packages. We arrived at 4.30pm and after checking in went to the bar. My wife doesn't drink and so asked for a cup or pot of tea, to be told they stop doing tea at 4pm!! and this is supposed to be a a quality hotel. We went in for dinner at 5.50pm 20 minutes after dinner started, to be faced with a luke warm buffet with food all dried up under the heating lights, the dining room smelled and looking round was quite dirty. Breakfast was just as bad. We asked after the concert on our return to the hotel for tea for my wife but were refused again and told to go to our room if we wanted tea.
We have never been to a hotel where this has happened before. The room was a good size and looked out over the sea, but with wallpaper hanging off the ceiling didn't really feel welcoming. The bed was extremely firm and next to no toiletries in the bathrrom.
This was our first stay at a Britannia Hotel and it will be the last.
Even though we only paid £102 for both of us, it was certainly not value for money.

“Well worth the money!!!”

We have recently stayed at the hotel friday to sunday and found our stay very comfortable!!
we had room 168 and was a nice, clean, warm spacious room with a perfect sea view. breakfast in a morning was yummy and dinner was nice too(not always what we fancied but you could hardly grumble) but there was always several desserts to choose.we went as a group of 13 and was made to feel very welcome and staff even went out of there way to make sure we could always be seated together at meal times.(Janet was her name one of the staff who was lovely) the only thing for us we noticed is something very small but noticeable there was a snooker room on the ground floor at the end of the building and it was freezing and although the men really wanted to play snooker we avoided that room ! maybe there was a problem with the heating who knows?? we all would deffo recommend this hotel as it is near to shops, pubs, beach and hopefully returning some time in the summer =)

Room Tip: 110 was my friends room (best out of all) but our room 168 was just as nice both seaview rooms!
