“Very enjoyable stay”

We stayed at the Waldorf at the end of August 2011 and had a very good experience. We booked last minute (the night before!) into a family room. We have a disabled daughter and a support dog (similar to a guide dog) and although we were on the side of the hotel without a lift the owners (Steve and Tom) were always ready to help which meant we weren't inconvenienced. The room was spacious enough for us (2 adults, 2 children & dog) and had a great sea view. The room could do with some updating but having paid more to stay in some much poorer hotels in Blackpool we were quite happy. Any issues we had were dealt with very quickly since nothing was too much trouble for Steve and Tom.

The hotel parking was very handy and the hotel bar was useful to us because we could all go in there and because it was quiet we weren't disturbing other users. The breakfasts were very good and the staff were happy to accomodate any variations.

The hotel is located in a quiet area which was ideal for us but only a couple of minutes from the Pleasure Beach. There were loads of buses to use and I think the trams open around Easter 2012 which would also help instead of terminating at the Pleasure Beach

We would certainly stay again

“Weekend stay at the Waldorf”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2011

Stayed here with my boyfriend during the last weekend of the illuminations (4 - 6 Nov), we managed to get a sea view room, No.104, which we didn't expect as we booked late. The hotel is in a quiet location at the south end of town about 5 mins walk from the Pleasure Beach and was easy to reach. There was free parking just outside the hotel, which is important to us when choosing anywhere to stay. The room was quite small, but clean and decorated in a restful neutral style, the bathroom maybe could have done with a bit of a facelift, but the shower worked decently enough, and we were out all day and just using the room as a base anyway. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly, and were knowledgeable about Blackpool, and offered us discount vouchers if we needed them. At breakfast when I asked for more water for the teapot, they offered to make us a fresh pot. We thought the breakfast was excellent, with a choice of cereals, a good plate of full English, and alternatives such as kippers, which were a welcome change. There were tea and coffee making facilities in the room, and packets of biscuits.
One or two minor negative points - the toilet seat was loose, and there was no plug in the sink, nor a bathmat to stand on after a shower, however, after we mentioned this at reception, a member of staff was very apologetic and obliging, and found us a couple of mats, and a plug.
The hotel does accept credit cards, however, there is a 3% surcharge for this.
One other thing that we discovered during our stay, and what might be an inconvenience to some people, was that there were no trams running by the hotel - they currently start at the Pleasure Beach.
We enjoyed our stay at the Waldorf and would stay here again.

“Good and bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2011

Stayed here with the family for one night recently. Firstly the location of the hotel is fantastic, much quieter than others but still close enough to have easy access to attractions. Next the service here is fabulous. Really friendly, really polite and helpful. Also the breakfast was great, served beautifully, plenty on plate and served with a friendly smile. The room also had a lovely sea view and bed was comfortable.

So why may you ask am I only giving this 3 stars?

Well onto the negatives.....This hotel seriously needs a facelift. From walking in at reception it is clear that this hotel is tired. Old wallpaper (damp in places) old carpets, old fixtures and fittings. The bedroom, although very clean was very very dated, especially the bathroom which was actually unpleasant!
Now given the choice I would opt for friendly service rather than mod cons but for the price we paid I really expected both. If this was a £60 per room per family place then fair enough but it was double that and so overall despite the very friendly welcome and lovely service we recieved we won't be going back. Sorry :(

“A Pleasant Weekend with Good Service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2011

I travelled with my wife to spend the halloween and penultimate weekend of the illuminations and was very happy with our stay. We encountered friendly staff who provided a warm welcome, good recommendations on where to eat, offers to dry clothes if we were to get caught in the rain, discount vouchers for the attractions, care and attention over breakfast to ensure we were happy and felt relaxed. The service was excellent. Even reminders on the walls that the clocks were changing that night showed what attention to detail the hotel had. The location was right for us being in a quieter end of Blackpool but only a short walk to the Pleasure Beach and trams to the centre. The hotel is clean, tidy, comfortable, offers a good breakfast, we parked easily outside the hotel and for the price considering it was the end of a school holiday within the illumination period, compared to the other accomodation we considered, offers value for money for a weekend break. Overall we were happy, from the service can see why many actually go back there and we would certainly book again if we travel to Blackpool

Room Tip: We stayed on the first floor and had a nice view out to the sea front
