I have just returned from a week-end stay at the Headlands. This is a quaint hotel with traditional but by no means outdated values. I was warmly greeted by the owner, who went out of his way to make sure I felt welcome. A trait exhibited by all staff throughout my stay. My room was large and airy with a superb view over the Irish Sea. A seat near the window, a paper on my lap and a drink in my hand and the stresses and strains of ever day life seemed a million miles away! The room benefitted from a quiet and efficient central heating system - no banging of pipes or tepid water. Even on the coldest of February nights, the room was warm and cosy. It was tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean as was the en suite bathroom. An ample amount of hot water poured from the taps at a touch, making a long soak in the bath a positive luxury. The bedding was very clean - no bed bugs or unsightly stains or smells here!
Breakfast is served in a large oak panelled room which also doubles up as an entertainment area with a large solid wood dance-floor. The food was well presented and hot! Of good quality too, not the limp sausage and bacon and soggy toast experienced at many four star hotels I have stayed in. There is also a well stocked buffet table with a wide variety of cereals fruit juices, yoghurt and fruit available to those on a more healthy diet. Nothing is too much trouble for the chef. You can have your eggs cooked to your liking. I am sure they would even cut your toast into soldiers if you ask! This time due to pre -arranged engagements I did not have dinner, but I would have no hesitation in staying half-board next time.
For those wishing to enjoy a game of snooker there is a half-sized table and pool table in the large games room, with ample room to swing the cue! No awkward walls to manouevre around. There are two lounges for those wishing to relax or watch a little television. The licensed bar is well stocked with an adequate wine list for the more discerning customer! For those who cannot live without a computer wifi is accessible in all rooms and for those who have forgotten their laptop there is a computer facility available, though it would be true to say, at the time of my visit, the majority of the clentele looked as though they could easily survive without a computer!
So pleased was I with my stay that I booked for the New Year 3 day House Party. Roll on the 30th of December, but with a four day stay at only £120 I don't think it will be that long before I return. Well done to all.
For those wishing for a quiet, relaxing holiday this is the place for you. For those wishing for a booze filled, vibrant and raucous holiday, there are plenty more hotels for you to choose from nearer the tower!
