just got back from a weekend in blackpool.a place ive visited many times. but up until now most of the hotels ive stayed at have been abysmal; not so with the big blue the room a superior deluxe was excellent, the staff couldnt do enough for you, ranging from advice about resort to supplying us with buckets of ice to take to room. we stayed 3rd feb to 5th feb with a meal on friday night although we had a set menu it was no problem picking from the a, la, carte which came at no extra cost to us.breakfast were excellent but make sure its included because its a tad expensive otherwise.my advice is if you are thinking of a weekend away in blackpool this is the place to stay.

“Very, Very good”

Its simple, if you want a top quality hotel and service at a fair price in Blackpool then look no further. Having stayed in Blackpool at least once every year for the last 40 odd years this is one of only a handful of properties that deserve to be commented on and called a quality hotel. Style and comfort from start to finish, superb food, great room and good service. I can only say try it, you wont be dissapointed.

“A Little Touch of Class!”

I was really worried about arriving at the Big Blue having stayed at various awful hotels in Blackpool. I needn't have worried.
Check in was excellent, the staff were friendly, smart and helpful. Our room was spacious with a large double bed and was absolutely spotless. Very well appointed with an iron and board, hairdryer and a large mirror, also a lovely flat screen TV, blackout curtains, air con and a nicely filled tea tray - no scummy kettle or old sugars! Plenty of wardrobe space and for one which can be so rare in hotels, lots of nice big hangers!
Bathroom was modern and so clean. Loads of spare towels and some nice toiletries. Great power shower and bath and lots of mirror and storage space.
Although we had not asked for it, we had an extra part to our room where there were bunkbeds, wall mounted toys and two flat screen TV's at bnunk height, which I can only imagine would have been a welcome thought for families with tired out children.
We had a few drinks in the bar whichhad a really elegant feel to it. A nice range of drinks as well. Barmen were lovely and helpful. The food menu looked great and even though we didn't eat there the food looked good. The menu was served until ten and then there were after dinner snacks available as well as veniding machines on the corridor (there is also a cash machine available)
Breakfast was lovely, nice range of cereals, bread, fresh fruit and the typical full English. We went at the "busy" time but it was well organised and we didn't feel hassled or stressed.
Safe parking which was key coded for safety.
I thought it was a great hotel, especially for Blackpool and would certainly stay again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the second floor or above as the ground floor looks right onto the carpark.

“Great room, disappointing breakfast”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

the lobby and communal areas are smart and with contemporary decor. The room was clean and spacious and has a sectioned off area for with bunk beds and a tv....would be a great base for children. Though I would challenge the declaration on the sign outside that this is 'boutique' hotel. The bedrooms are clean and pleasant but not unlike many other hotels that we have stayed in and not uniquely decorated or particularly stylish.
The evening meal in the restaurant was not included n our package but was ally good; lots of variety on the A la Carte menu, reasonably priced. It arrived quickly and was delicious. The bar staff were friendly and were able to prepare some fantastic cocktails.
But the breakfast was very disappointing. We had to wait to be seated meaning that we only got into the dining room at 10:15; the sitting ended at 10:30. Coffee or tea came from a machine serving one cup at a time. This was the first queue. The second queue was for hot breakfast . They stopped frying eggs to order before we were seated in the dining room leaving only scrambled eggs which were kept warm therefore over cooked. We could have ordered poached eggs or boiled eggs but this incurred additional charges of £2 per serving! Both the bacon and the sausages ran out before we got there. Mushrooms were charged extra. The next queue was for toast.
It was clear from the previous evening that the Big Blue can do so much better than this.
The bar tender and his wonderful cocktails has nudged my score to a 3....otherwise it would have been much lower.

“Weekend in Blackpool”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

We stayed at this hotel based on the reviews in tripadvisor. Dinner was excellent, the bar area was nice. The breakfast was a bit disappointing, as we had to wait the first day to get seated and we would have expected a bit more from a 4star hotel. Room was clean but pretty average, with the air on not working and the fire broken. Overall the experience was OK but I wouldn't class this hotel as a 4star especially at the price they are charging.
