“I have been going here for 12 years !!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

I am 20 years old and i have been coming to this hotel since i was a wee toot from Inverness.I love this hotel i love the people in here and all the people who are leaving the crappy reviews are most certainly jealous. Ok it has changed hands in the 12 years i have been going here but i must say it has certainly changed for the better since Kath and Ken took over. The rooms are always clean and tidy. You are always welcomed in and as long as you are a respectful person as i am sure most people are then you will enjoy your stay here. No where will tolerate bad behaviour or basically lying when you turn up with more people. Think of it this way none of you's were put out of the hotel for this. kath and Ken tried to accomodate the best they are able to. The breakfast is great and you dont have to have the same thing everyday you can chop and change it each and everyday if you wish. I have been in many of the rooms over the 12 years ok it may not be the biggest rooms in the world but come on you are on holiday and surely you wont be staying in your room that often except for sleeping and a restbite. The hotel is wonderfully located to local shops and pubs as well as the promenade, south pier the amusement arcade and the famous pleasure beach. You are also perfectly placed if you need a taxi to get to the centre of town and this is a maximum of about a £5 ach way and i must say alot cheaper than a family of 4 getting the tram. I will be returning to this hotel until the end of time and i cannot wait to have my own family and let them delve into this lovely friendly and most certainly family friendly hotel. I will be visiting here again in about 6 months time to let my fiance enjoy the experience as well. Well Kath and ken i shall see you soon !!!!!!

Room Tip: Any room is good in here some bigger than others speak to kath and ken and i am sure they will be ab...

“Perfect!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 December 2011

Nothing too much trouble for owners, Kathy and Ken! Moorbank House is a lovely place to stay and very handy for the South Promenade, free parking is an added bonus as fees around Blackpool can get expensive.

The owners have a great local knowledge and always on hand with tips for places to visit, ask for vouchers for specific attractions and you will save a few quid!

One complaint about breakfast, there was far too much to eat and it didn't help my diet! Lol

We're going back to Blackpool to see a show and won't even consider staying anywhere else but Moorbank House.

Perfect for a Blackpool break!

“Disappointing”

The hotel was handy for the south shore i.e. pleasure beach etc. The parking was good, they have spaces at the back for residents, Our room was in the attic and was a bit cold. the shower room was very small. We had a nice welcome when we arrived, but it went downhill after that. Breakfast was o.k. We filled a sort of menu in on the first morning, the same menu was on our table the second morning, so we got the same again. No one spoke to us at Breakfast. When we left the woman of the house was very rude and did'nt even say goodbye. Would not go back.

Room Tip: Don't go in the attic

Went to stay for a few days with my husband, kids, and rest of family, 12 of us in total, there were 7 kids so wantd a family hotel, found moorbank on web, sounded lovely and friendly, and it was in a gr8 location near pleasure beach and at a gr8 price! we arrived quite late was welcomed by ken. our room and my mums room were Ok. but my sisters room was very sml, tv wasnt working properly, ther was dirty spoon left on shelf, was a shame as she had a sml baby so found it hard to move about and didnt hav much storage for clothes. breakfasts were very rushed, the orders wer took b4 u got a chance to settle at the table, and u as soon as u put ur fork dwn the table was cleared! so u felt very rushed to hurry up and finish! the wife done the breakfast, sorry for using that phrase, but i never got her name as she never spoke or smiled the full holiday, even felt the kids wer a bother. except last day she spoke to ask if tht was us goin now so she cld get her car space bk. so didnt feel welcome at all a shame realy

As explained in the previous review you arrived with more persons than you said you were bringing, Janice (lead person for the booking) allocated the three rooms and it appears one of these was underutilized (sleeping 2 persons instead of 3).

Guests are able to order what they want for breakfast every morning. For this purpose we place breakfast order forms on the table for guests to complete and we collect these when we bring a rack of toast to the table. Experience tells us guests prefer their breakfast sooner rather than having to wait for it and sadly you are the only persons to have found fault with this. Again it is policy to remove breakfast plates as soon as the guest has finished allowing them to enjoy toast and jam marmalade ect without the encumbrance of dirty crockery on the table. Guests are also free to request more toast if they so wish and are able to take as much time as they wish over their breakfast. Some of your party were amongst the last to leave the breakfast room. If you did feel rushed then this sadly this must have been your own perception.

Again I feel the negative comments regarding Kathy is animosity due to the fact she requested some members of your party did not smoke in the hotel bedrooms. Moorbank House welcomes all families and this is borne out by other positive reviews on these pages and the 100+ at Bookdirect Rooms and other places around the web. We are the first to realise we cannot be everything to everybody on this basis should you decide to return to Blackpool in the future we would be happy to recommend establishments that do allow smoking within them.

“Disappionting”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2011

When we got there did not even have a welcome.Breakfast was good but our room was very small and we had a small child with us, this gave her no room to move, our t.v played up all weekend and we only ever got clean towels but not so much as a wipe around or our toilet cleaned. The landlady was very unfriendly with not so much as a smile at breakfast, i know she was busy but in her line of business she should still be welcoming to customers. Never once was asked if everything was okay for us. Ken her husband seemed friendly enough but never seen him until we left. Overall i was rather disappointed with it. They say it is family friendly but they seem to have no time for children.

Thank you for taking the time to provide this review. Your party made this booking back on 12th September this year. At that time you informed us you were a party of 5 adults 6 children and a baby. We discussed various room options and how persons would break down per room eventually settling on 3 rooms (all family) as you wanted the cheapest option available. The three rooms provided 11 bed spaces. At the same time you were offered a cot for the baby but declined stating the child slept with the parents.

On arrival it turned out you had 6 adults and 6 children including the baby I welcomed you in and explained breakfast times etcetera and showed you where to park your mini bus. Janice (lead person for the booking) explained there had been problems finding a driver for the minibus (they would not hire it to persons with penalty points) and consequently you had to bring the additional adult to drive it. Janice was then shown the rooms and allocated these to the rest of the family. Subsequently the room you went into designed for three had 4 persons within it. In addition it seems one of the other family rooms was underutilized and accommodated only two persons, but as we point out Janice was responsible for allocating the available rooms.

The high winds of the previous evening dislodged the aerial on the roof disturbing the picture on the TV. We did all we could including changing the TV set and providing an aerial booster while we tracked down the problem. On contacting our aerial engineer he was unable to attend for a few days due to pressure of work. All this was explained to you on the day.
Toilets are cleaned daily when the tea and coffee trays are replenished and new towels provided for the bathrooms. If you felt this was not to your standard then all you had to do was ask for it to be done again.

Kathy had to ask members of your party a couple of times to refrain from smoking in the hotel bedrooms. Moorbank House is totally non-smoking in line with legislation for England and Wales and it is against the law to smoke in these bedrooms. A designated area is provided outside the front door for smokers purposes. Perhaps it is for this reason you term Kathy ‘unfriendly’.
