It was the beginning and the end of our hiking tour in the Lake District. The inn has a great common area, delicious breakfast, congenial hosts, and the most wonderful soaking tub (in our room). It is located close to the train station, and easy walking distance to some nice restaurants. We stayed twice during our trip, once the inn was very quiet, and the second time very full, but still very quiet. We will revisit our inn, if only in the pictures we took.

As always, I checked with Trip Advisor before booking this hotel and we were not disappointed. Welcoming staff, beautifully clean and well looked after accommodation all contributed to a relaxing break. As advertised the breakfast was cooked to order and was delicious and hot. Oh those mushrooms, Yum! Could not fault the hotel and would not hesitate to recommend to others. Thanks to all at Ellerthwaite Lodge.

25 May 2009 | Trip type: Family

I spent 3 days/2 nights at the Lake District with my wife and toddler son. We knew that the best pictures are taken and shown on the web, but still, knew there is little else to go on, went with Ellerthwaite after much research and hotel reviews. Three things stand out on this lodge -first it's very newly renovated, so everything was classy, clean, and cosy. Second, the staff showed excellent attitude, courtesy and service. Third, it's location is very good, within walking distance to nearby shops, yet was away from the crowd. We felt very comfortable there, and lament only we had to leave on schedule and could not stay longer. My review however is for the Family Suite facing the road, which was spacious and nice, and despite facing the street, was quiet. Absolutely no regrets and will certainly stay here again if I pass this way.

Thank you, I must admit i realy was worried before you arrived as i have never had too answer so many questions about the building and area but it was all worth it and we look forward to seeing you again if you return to the lakes.

9 Apr 2009 | Trip type: Business, Solo travel

I work for a large outdoor company who opened a store in Bowness-on-Windermere in summer last year, initially there were 10-15 booked into Ellerthwaithe and this was done by our head office. I was then required to go back twice alone each time staying for 7 nights.

The hotel is brilliant, excellently located just a few minutes walk from the town centre and a 15 minute walk from Bowness (where the store is located).

Alistair (owner, cleaner, barman, waiter & at least once during my stay - taxi driver!!! - thats right, it was doing what it often does in the lakes and slinging it down and he kindly drove me into bowness by his own volition) was brilliant, as a single female traveller I was wary of being there for so long and presumed most of my time at the hotel would be holed up in my room, but by the 3rd evening of my first stay, a bottle of something cold was waiting for me as I arrived back from the store and he was happy to sit and chat.

Both Allistair and his wife (whose name I apologise for forgetting) were always happy to help and advised of places to eat and such like.

I stayed in room 12 which is located at the top of the hotel. The room was clean and spacious and the window in the sloping roof made a perfect place to sit and watch a spectacular summer storm.

The breakfast was brilliant and my only regret was as I was there on business I was unable to take more time to enjoy both this and exploring around more.

Based on my stay here I have booked myself and wife into Bowness this summer for 5 days although sadly not at Ellerthwaite as it was fully booked (which should say something).

Do stay here, but do book early.

Me and my husband have just returned from this delightful place where there was not one thing that could be complained about .
We decided to go away a couple of weeks before and when it comes to booking hotels i am always looking for the perfect room ,location , amenities etc, and have to admit i do get on my husbands nerves by taking so long to book somewhere- although it does usually pay off , and it definatley did this time.
We booked the junior suite which we both thought was beautiful with a grand four poster bed , settee, table & chairs with quality furnishings throughout and a very modern bathroom with twin basins , power shower and an enormous bathtub.Very luxurious . . yes you could spend a lot less on other B& B's and that's exactly what you would get so please don't you won't regret it.
The breakfast is very very good well cooked and plentyful.
The owners are very friendly without encroaching on your privacy , they are there if you need them for information etc but not overly fussy like some hotel owners, very pleasant friendly atmosphere and chilled.
These lovley people have the rare thing of getting everything just right . Well done.
We will definatley stay here again and would reccomend it to anyone whether a couple or family looking for luxury & cleanliness but not with the stuffiness of some larger hotels ,and in a spotlessly clean enviroment with great staff , great food & perfect location being a 2 min walk from Windermere ctown entre and a leisurley 10/15 min walk to Bowness Windermere and the lake . A taxi is approx 2.50 if you don't want to walk back up after a long day , but i wouldn't bother enjoy the fresh air.

Try the Elleray Public house which has just been refurbished and where we spent a brilliant couple of hours and had a great time with some of the locals who were really welcoming and the wonderfull bar lady Tina .
The Grey wall has very friendly staff as well and a nice atmosphere.

Don't waste time looking at other hotels there is no need , BOOK THE ELLERTHWAITE LODGE.
