Our first Christmas at cragwood..what a place..Phillip & staff wonderful..food great..rooms lovely..other guest's great fun..everything laid on..our best christmas..thank you.

It's hard to add to what previous reviewers have said - certainly no-one has exaggerated how good this hotel and its staff are.
We stayed for a few days just before Christmas. It was very quiet but instead of taking a breather, Phillip and his team were on top form! Our large and airy room was delightful with exceptional views of the Lake The food must again be given special mention. It is undeniably top class. Imaginative, modern and absolutely delicious. We stayed 3 nights and each evening the menu changed. The vegetarian dishes were sublime! And no, I am not a vegetarian. Breakfast was just as good - fresh, and beautifully cooked and presented. If you are remotely thinking of going for the smoked haddock at breakfast...do so! There is happiness and contentment here - it shines out! Phillip has put together a team that far surpasses one's expectations.

We took a mid-christmas break, arriving 27th departing 30th, we had super time, considering they had just finished the christmas rush and were now gearing up for the new year bookings they could have been forgiven if service etc was a little off peak! NO WAY! from the warm, inviting bedroom, super food and great service (which was constant) Cragwood is very much on top of the game at all times, my husband was unwell (recovering from an illness) which meant we spent a great deal of time sitting in front of the log fire...which was at all times huge and warm, the afternoon sandwich's and tea were great......the best ever, we had a super break and would / have recomended this hotel, so much so that when a family member comes over from South Africa we are booking a break at Cragwood.

Having spent a wonderful Christmas 1998, 1999 and a spectacular Millennium celebration at Cragwood I was eagerly looking forward to returning for Christmas 2011.I was curious as to how they could improve on perfection but they did!The Hotel is outstanding in every way; surrounded by enchanting gardens leading down to Lake Windermere. The food is exquisite and more than plentiful. The whole staff, headed up by Philip, are a wonderful team who ensure that you have a memorable stay; this is a hotel where you are made to feel truly welcome. For Christmas, I understand that bookings are kept to a manageable size (on this occasion 26) in order that staff can join in the fun and entertainment. The ambience is that of a House Party. Fellow guests became more like family as we enjoyed the variety of entertainment together, joined in the welcome Boxing Day walk, the Christmas Cruise on Lake Windermere or merely relaxed and chatted with each other by cosy log fires.
Our room was a great size; spotlessly clean with a gloriously big bed. All the facilities you would expect were on hand. In the room, on our arrival, was a gift wrapped bottle of champagne complete with champagne glasses and home made chocolates. In addition there were miniature liquors and dishes full of sweets, both of which were replenished daily. Santa was spotted in the garden during lunch on Christmas Day by the two delightful children who were staying. Their excitement had a ripple effect round the table resulting in us all clapping and cheering when Santa actually came into the Dining Room to deliver extra presents to us all. We were so pleased that we had booked the extra day at the end of this Christmas break and we made sure that we booked ahead for Christmas 2012.

In short, 'Cragwood proved to be exactly the right choice for Christmas'
