Warm welcome that was advertised equals a box to put your money in. Self catering hostel equals Two toaster, none work. Oven doesn't work. Paul the owner would not show up if the place was on fire. does Paul exist, as anyone ever meet him. I'm Irish, I know what crack is, there was none here. Not a safe place. It was a good place, actually exceeded my expectations. At 18pounds per night for a private 2-person room, i wasn't expecting much, especially in a touristy area like Windermere. But the bathrooms were really clean and the kitchen stocked with cooking utensils. Breakfast is just enough with bread, butter and jam provided. Milk as well as cereal is also available. Oh, tea and coffee too. The best thing is you can get them anytime because there are no 'times' for the pantry.

Didn't feel very comfortable slipping between the sheets. Bring your own blanket so you can lie on the comforters. :) Otherwise, very convenient. Very close to the train station and to Orrest Head, a hike that is a must for any visitor to Lake District.

Would recommend to anyone except those with young children. If you're ready to rough it out a little, this place is ideal.

We paid £15 pp/pn - just £2.50 less each than other stunning, clean hostels across the UK and Scotland. This place was well below standard. Old grotty mattresses and pillows. No locks on doors - hence no security. It was damp and our room smelt appalling.

It needs completely updating - even if that means putting the price up a bit! Currently revolting and not recommended.

Absolutely great hostel. Never stayed anywhere like it before in the UK.
Everything was clean, tidy and cosy. My partner and I had a private room which was a little cramped but perfect for what we needed. The kitchen was great we cooked in every night, Sky TV and internet was a suprising bonus and the living room a cosy and lovely place to meet fellow backpackers, all round 8 out of 10!
