“Beautiful Setting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

We visited the Lake District to check out places to get married on a budget and the Beech Hill Hotel was the first place we saw and we fell in love with the beautiful gardens and views beyond. We stayed at the hotel a few months before the wedding, we had a lake view double room, which we found were a little pricey for the standard. The food in the restaurant was excellent, small portions but brilliantly presented and delicious. Waiting staff were very polite and helpful, happy to modify meals if required. On the wedding day, again staff were very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much.

Room Tip: If you are staying at this hotel it's definitely worth upgrading to a lake view room, it would b...

“2 night break, thanks to KGB Deals - Fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

My partner & I have just come back from a "dream" 2 night break at The Beech Hill in Windermere, which we purchased through KGB Deals at £109 for the 2 nights B & B, I upgraded to a Select plus room for the luxury of a King Size bed. However, it wasn't until the 2nd day when my partner pointed out "This double bed is a bit cosy" that I realised the hotels istake, as we were only there 1 more night, I thought it pointless to mention. Anyway...the hotel is in a fab location, some 5 minutes drive from Bowness on Windermere, set in the most beautiful of grounds with breath taking views that are to die for. The rooms are fitted out with modern tasteful furniture, lovely soft furnishings and plenty of complimentary items; shampoo, bath soak, tea/coffee etc... Breakfast is fresh fruit, cereals, pastries, full english and you can order smoked haddock, salmon and vegetarian if desired. We will definitely go back again given the chance.

Room Tip: Room 44 which we stayed in, was located nearby the heating system, each time it "kicked" i...

“Great Short Break”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

We book through Travelzoo on a voucher deal paying £238 for two nights - Double Select Room, Breakfast, Wine in room, afternoon tea and 5 course meal each day. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I think we were lucky with our room allocation (room 73, select double, recently refurbished, large with a bay window overlooking the lake). The actual hotel looks a little tired (especially from the outside) and not all the rooms have been refurbished. I would have been very unhappy to have been placed any of the old rooms. It was very quite - mon and tues 30th/31st Jan, so you would expect (being a 4 star) that you would be given full attention..The first night I was frozen, our room had no thermostat and the radiator was luke warm, The maintenance man said he would fix it and after, the temp did rise by a couple of degrees, then in the dining room we were placed next to a single paned window with a cold radiator. Another couple of annoying issues were they forgot the canopies prior to our meal, the petite fours were disappointing amaretto biscuits and the LITRE bottle of water I ordered from the menu was only 750ml (the 1/2 litre was 330ml). I had to phone reception twice on our second night to ask for our wine. However the food was excellent as was the afternoon tea (however I would have choked on it if we had to pay £17! for it). Pool small but clean and refreshing.
All in all we really enjoyed our two nights but I would recommend that you make sure you get a good deal, you ask for a refurbished room and have the ability to relax and enjoy very good cuisine.

Room Tip: Get a good deal, you ask for a refurbished room

“Great food and clean - small bedrooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

We booked the day before, dinner bed and breakfast in a superior room for £129 (special rate as it's january and mid-week).

Arrived at 12.30pm for a 2pm check in and was told the room was not ready so we drove into Windermere for lunch. A lot of the shops and restaurants were either closed for winter break or didn't open til 5pm - we had soup and a sandwich at the little cafe next to the boat trips.

Got back to the hotel and checked in. We paid extra for a superior room. It was clean and has just been refurbished, had a great view of the lake BUT was VERY SMALL considering it was a superior room.

We booked dinner for 8pm. GREAT service from the Restaurant Manager. Canapes and drinks are served as you sit in the lounge to choose from the menu. The food was very good with a varied selection (we had the 5 course menu). The service was good in some respects but there was a misunderstanding with one of the waitresses (language barrier) and she was slightly rude but this did not spoil the overall experience. We took coffee in the lounge.

The hotel is very quiet. We had a very nice time but I would not rush back. I DEFINITELY WOULD NOT PAY THE NORMAL FULL PRICE TO STAY HERE. It was good value for money with the special rate but definitely NOT WORTH 4STAR PRICE.

Thank you for taking the time to post your review. I was pleased to read that you enjoyed your stay with us. I was of course sorry that you felt your room was small, I do however think this is a matter of opinion as our Select rooms have plenty of space as well as a seating area in the window. I’m glad to hear you enjoyed dinner in our restaurant, we have a fantastic Chef and award winning food. I really don’t think a member of my team would have been rude to you intentionally, and I’m sorry if this is how it came across, I will of course discuss this with the restaurant team. I would like to add that you were only charged ten pounds for the upgrade and as for four star prices, Our tariff actually represents more along the lines of three star rates for the Lake district. We strive to offer excellent hospitality and value to our guests. We are currently in the process of refurbishing several bedrooms, many of which have been completed. We have a total of 57 bedrooms so I would recommend contacting a member of our reservations team to discuss any special requirements, we are always more than happy to talk guests through what we have available and answer any questions.

“'Would stay again'”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Went with two other couples on a travel zoo deal which included dinner bed & breakfast with cream tea. Rooms were comfortable, with lovely view of Lake Windermere, and very quiet, had a great nights sleep.. Food was good. Staff were very friendly. Overall good value for money.

Room Tip: Ask for a recently refurbished room.
