We stayed at this 'place' on a romantic trip to Windemere.
First impressions were not good. The check - in / bar was dated and a strange smell lingered.

As we climbed the winding, rickety stairs to our room at the top my first instinct was to run. This would probably explain why the full amount for your stay is taken before you can see the rooms.

We decided to leave our bags and take the '20 minute stroll' down to the lake.........40 minutes later we wrer still 'strolling' although this had actually turned into a brisk walk as it was snowing.

Returning to our tiny attic room later that afternoon, - (I think we had been delaying going back), we discovered our complimentary tray featured such joys as mouldy cups, out of date milk and a kettle that didnt even bear thinking about. Our 'fabulous view of the lakes' was actually someones backyard complete with authentic outdoor toilet and rubbish pile.

As we were going out in the evening we took a short nap. Upon waking my partner hit his head on the sloping roof. Still unable to have a cup of tea, a hot shower would have been great - except the shower didnt work. We couldnt even get any hot water out of the sink.

Checkout was at 10am. we left at 9am just after the congeled greasy mess of breakfast - although we did get to play 'can you identify the food on your plate' as a bonus.

On a day trip with my wife and 4 kids to the Lake District we stopped off in Windermere. A beautiful picturesque place. We were walking the streets trying to choose from one of the many eateries when it began to rain. We were walking past the Queen Hotel and decided it looked as good as anywhere. It wasn't very busy and we took up 2 tables at the foot of the stairs. From looking at the menu food stopped at 3pm so we had less than 10 mins to order. I immediately got a bad vibe from the place and the waiting staff were not too polite or helpful. One guy put the rush on us so I ordered the chilli and my wife ordered steak with pepper sauce. The kids went for the usual junk -smiley faces and chicken nuggets. As our food was brought to table it was obvious we had no cutlery but no one got us any. A while later as I went to the bar for drinks the waiter said to my wife "you ok for cutlery? you know it's here on the shelf" and walked off. So I got it on my way back from the bar. The chilli was awful, the steak cold and fatty and peppersauce was like water. As for the chicken nuggets its a bad day when my daughter doesn't like them as she eats nothing but nuggets. Biggest regret that we didn't complain but just couldn't wait to get out of there. Rip off price for poor quality food.

stopped here at the weekend , it was all vey very nice , nice big leather chairs , and very warm , must have had CAVITY insalation. so pleased have booked up again in six months

The Frommers guide said "Bedrooms are a bit smallish but reasonably comfortable". This turned out to be a bit of an understatement - our double room was 2.5m by 2.5m and nothing like the picture on the website. The room was very hot due to hot water pipes in the wall and the ventilation was poor. The room was poorly cleaned, dust everywhere, carpet filthy, toothpaste in the cups and even a piece of dried bacon on the window sill. In addition, the decor was in a poor state with the paper peeling off the walls and flimsy curtains which did nothing to keep out the light. There was no handle on the tap, no remote for the TV and a plastic sheet on the mattress. I wasn't expecting the Hilton, but for £60 a night I did expect a bit more than this.
