Without doing too many clichés, it’s fair to say that you’re treated like a star at the Holly-wood B&B which is based on a nice quiet road in the heart of Windermere. I was in the lakes to visit some of the restaurants from Steve Coogans BBC “The Trip”. (see Holbeck Ghyll & Gilpin Lodge restaurant review)
I was lucky that I had a quiet week of tourists, and this just made the trip all the better. Rooms were great value and offered me a single occupancy rate. (The fact that other B&B’s wanted to charge the same for me using half the electric/water/bed/food was ridiculous. I won’t book a B&B that does this silly rate for single occupancy.) The owners of Hollywood (Yana & Ian) were amazing, and offered the best service outside Harrods. Nothing was too much effort, the decor was very nice and you feel at home after a long drive, which is what we all want.
I loved the breakfast, the nice bathroom, and the local advice was worth its weight in gold. Yana is well connected and very good at making you relax and have a memorable holiday for all the right reasons. The rainy few days in the Lakes were made great by Yana and Ian, and I will be booking in March for another foodie break. I went to Gillpin Lodge and Holly Beck and some pubs in Windermere thanks to tips from Yana who just amazed me! (She saved me a lot in taxis as well.) In summary, book and you WILL love it.
