“A FIRST CLASS GUEST HOUSE WITH A VERY WARM WELCOME”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2011

From the moment I arrived at the Holly-Wood Guest House I felt very welcome. Nothing was too much trouble for the friendly hosts Yana and Ian who were always very helpful and went out of their way to be of assistance to the guests.

My en-suite single bedroom had adequate storage space plus a small desk and was kept spotlessly clean with a very comfortable bed and good quality bed linen and towels. It contained a kettle with sachets of tea/coffee/chocolate + milk and biscuits. There was also a hair dryer and luxury toiletries plus a TV and free internet access.

The breakfast was excellent and consisted of fruit juices, various cereals, yogurts, grapefruit and a full English breakfast plus toast and marmalade or jam – complete with tea/coffee. There was no pre-booking of breakfast (which I liked) it was served any time between 08.30 – 09.30 am – orders were taken at the table on the morning. However, guests wishing to have little extras/alternatives like black pudding, kippers or smoked haddock were requested to order them the previous evening.

I would highly recommend the Holly-Wood Guest House to anyone looking for very comfortable accommodation in a central Windermere location close to local bus routes and the railway station. I found the local transport to be very good and had no problem getting around visiting local places.

“Loved it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 July 2011

Received a wonderful warm welcome from our hosts " Yana & Ian" on arrival. They offered to help us with our luggage, which I thought was a nice touch. We stayed in room 6 on the the top floor. It was spotless, and of a good size. The En-Suite was also quite large and again very clean with no mould etc. The room was well kitted out with a generous supply of refreshments etc.. When we went down for breakfast, we were always received a cheerful "Morning", and were always addressed by our first names ( How do they remember everyone ? ). The breakfast was excellent and set you up for the day.
Yana & Ian are excellent in every way, and I would not hesitate to recommend the Holly-Wood to anyone.

“Absolutely wonderful stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 July 2011

We can't say enough about this wonderful guest house and the innkeepers who run it. From the sumptuous breakfasts to the lovely room to the cordial and helpful Ian and Yana, our stay in the Lake District was perfect.
A few specifics:
1) Because we don't eat pork, a traditional "full English" breakfast was out of the question, but the vegetarian sausages that Yana found from a local purveyor were just outstanding so we didn't feel short-changed
2) We had researched walks in the area, but Ian and Yana loaned us their own walking books (plastic bagged of course) which were much more suitable than most of the walks we had researched on the internet
3) When normal breakfast time would have made it tight to catch our flight, they encouraged us to consider eating earlier and they were happy to accommodate us.
4) Free internet access too :-)

“Best Eggs in all of England”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 July 2011

Yana takes the prize for making the best eggs during our long stay in England. Ian was a wonderful host, very accomodating to our needs. The bed was very comfy and the new bath was perfect. A nice quite street but so close in the Windemere you can walk to explore the town and their resturants and a nice walk down the hill to Bowness for lots more exploration, but as Yana suggests take a taxi back home. Yana and Ian helped with bus schedule for a day trip to Grassmere. Overall Holly Wood ranks very high on our recomended stays.

“Wonderful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 June 2011

Simple, quiet, and a wonderful breakfast. Ian and Yana were excellent hosts, and were willing to be flexible enough to meet their guests needs. Breakfast time was changed to accomodate the schedule of a rowing team. We were able to check in earlier than usual, to accomodate our overseas flight and jet lag. Ian's overview of the area lead us to the best dinner value in Bowness.
