“Lovely location ,excellent value and friendly staff”

We have just returned from this lovely location ,we booked two nights but because of work commitments could only stay one.We were wary of telling hotel owner about this but he was fine ,a lovely gentleman who seemed nothing was too much trouble.
It was excellent value for money ,.
The breakfast was of very good quality ,served on very hot plates which I like as it keeps your food warm,The greek yogurt and compote was the best I have ever tasted.
Sadly we didnt eat in the dining room at night(which we had planned for our second night) but when we visit again we will make a point of doing that.
Every member of staff was pleasant and well groomed(important).
Thankyou and hope to visit again and see your newly refurbished hotel

“A hotel that offers something that is generally lacking these days!!! read on....”

The hospitality in this hotel is excellent......when we go somewhere as beautiful and thought provoking as the Lake District we are so pleased when we are pulled into and included in its quaint victorian ambience...it is a very interesting Victorian building with higgledy piggledy stairways and such a variety of rooms I am sure there is something to suit everyone...well you would think that!!!
We had the most fantastic attentiveness ever...James is such a lovely helpful person who seems to have a genuine passion for his hotel he never seemed to stop working.....our room was so comfy...the bathroom was enormous..we did not have a shower but the luxury of taking time out to bathe in lovely hot water was great after some rather inclement weather..the breakfast was delicious and you can ask for whatever you want..they will oblige!!! no running buffet "a la most faceless hotel chains" your breakfast is cooked to your taste not an hour before on a warmer!!
We ate in the restaurant and it was delicious food and excellent service.
Yes there are dated features of course!!! this is a very old building with some fascinating stories held within it's walls.... however these should be celebrated not scorned ( our bathroom sink was enormous..).all around the hotel are quirky little victorian finishes.. we loved it.
The hotel is in an excellent location..you could just roll out of bed and easily locate fine dining, lovely shops and decent ale!! The lake is a short walk away with such a lot going on around it..
The train station is just a few minutes walk away and there is easy access to most of the Lake District beauty.........
Many thanks to all the staff....you were all fantastic at delivering customer satisfaction..we will be booking again soon........we hear a lot more updating is going on and we can't wait to see it.
You deserve all your positive reviews....

“A good time was had by all :-)”

Stayed at the Oakthorpe Hotel for one night on the 2nd December. Warm and friendly welcome from the minute we arrived. Room was clean and comfortable with a HUGE bed, had the best nights sleep (although this may have been more to do with the copious amounts of wine drunk in the hotel bar). We didn't eat in the restaurant of the evening but have heard excellent reviews about the food, and the food served to other guests whilst we were there looked fabulous. Parking is a definite bonus.
Our stay was made all the better by the excellent, helpful and friendly staff. Spent a fun few hours in the bar with Jacob & Jeff (and another lady member of staff whose name I can't remember).....what a lovely bunch of people, as were the locals who popped in for drinks and the other guests in the hotel.
Our stay included breakfast which was plentiful and the service excellent.
The only issue for me was the shower situation in the bathroom. The "shower" facilities are a rubber shower nozzle which attaches to the bathtaps, although no shower curtain. This wasn't a problem for us as we were only there the one night but may be an issue for guests staying for a longer period.

“What a fantastic place!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2011

Myself and my partner stayed at the Oakthorpe Hotel on the 11th November 2011 and had a wonderful stay. The service was excellent, the room was spacious and clean with the biggest bed I have ever seen in my life, and a wonderful bath!! The breakfast was fantastic, with plenty of choice and attentive service! I'd definitely reccommend the greek yoghurt with berry compote followed by a full english! Nothing was too much trouble and the manager couldn't do enough for you. The hotel is in a fantastic location, just seconds away from the shops, with many pubs, cafe's and bars in the surrounding area. We didn't eat at the Lamplighter Bar but heard raving reviews about the food from many people during our stay! I would reccommend the Oakthorpe Hotel to anybody, you will not be disapointed!!!! :)

Room Tip: Ask for the room with a large bed!!!
