Excellent value accommodation within a lovely traditional property. Lovely hosts - very friendly and welcoming. We felt at home, very welcome but the owners were never intrusive and we came and went as we pleased.
We stayed in the attic room which, given it's location at the top of the house, has no rooms beside it and as such is a very peaceful and quiet room - with a very comfortable bed.
It has beautiful beams running through the main room and into the bathroom which does have a downside of making it less accomodating for taller people such as my partner who is 6ft 2. Please note that I did enquire about this before hand and the owner was very helpful and even measured the height for me which was very thoughtful. I was given the option of a different room but my partner and i preferred the look of this one and so whilst the height was a bit of an issue, we did book fully knowing that it would be and were not disappointed with our choice.
The bathroom has a shower and a seperate bath which is small but very nice. There were nice big fluffy bathrobes and the bathroom was fully stocked up with toiletries - all you need to take is your toothbrush and toothpaste!
The above was a very nice touch, as were the REAL (and very pretty) china cups, saucers and side plates which were in the room and cleaned each day.
We were very impressed to have a mini fridge in the room and also to have been given a complimentary bottle of wine on arrival (and a choice of which one we would like!), complimentary bottled water (2 each day), two packets of lovely biscuits each day and a full compliment of tea, coffee, hot chocolate, sugar and milk replenished daily. We also arrived to kendal mint cake in the room too which was lovely.
On looking at other places in the locality to stay NONE of them offered these kind of complimentary extras (not even the ones who charge 200+ a night - eg/ windermere suites etc) and so i can't say enough how good value this was.
The rooms are not quite as big as the pictures suggest but are still very roomy and cosy and the beds are so comfy!!
The location is excellent for windermere village (2 minutes - on the doorstep!) and is a 15 minute walk to bowness (for boast trips and more eateries etc). We ate in windermere at the Lighthouse (food good but a total rip off £40 for two main meals and one drink each - shame the owners are so greedy as the restaurant has a nice view, even the coke is watered down and the chips are frozen ready made chips!). We also ate at Mojos - excellent food and excellent value, home made beautiful food, welcoming staff - £32 for two courses each, two drinks each. We also ate at The spice lounge - very nice curry but spicier than normal so choose something milder than you would at home!)
Now for the (few) negatives - We couldn't find the individual heating referred to on the websight and so were a little cold some mornings and the room did seem a little damp by the end of our stay - there was terrible weather so maybe this contributed. We were also asked to ask for fresh towels if we needed any but we didn't as we thought we were given fresh towels in our room cabinet....only to find that they were the ones we had used folded up again. This was the only negative as we stayed 4 nights and so don't expect to have to request fresh towels. In my view they should just be replaced after 2 days for hygeine reasons, not folded up and made to look like fresh ones!
This was a great value guest house and i would definitely recommend it for a short break. Breakfasts were lovely and filling and the hosts were very nice. Excellent, excellent value - you will see for yourself when looking at other places!!
