“Comfy pillows and Big Breakfasts”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2011

Lovely character country inn with a very warm welcome from the first minute through the door. The double room was compact but adequate for a weekend stay or more, clothes storage was ok for a weekend stay but may be an issue for longer periods. The room was clean and the ensuite facilities modern and clean. Location is excellent with popular walks available from the Inn and many more within a short drive. Andrew and the rest of the staff were very welcoming and couldn't do enough to make the stay a pleasant experience. The food on offer was varied, excellently cooked and the portions generous, you don't necessarily need 3 courses here. Dogs are made welcome although we didn't take ours. This is a place I would readily recommend to anybody and will definitely be going again.

“excellent food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2011

Stopped here for a bite to eat after a walk on the fells. The Mill Inn was recommended for it's delicious food by the warden at Troutbeck Head caravan park. We weren't disappointed. Service was excellent and we were made to feel welcome. Our dog had his first ever pub lunch and a nice relaxing rest by the log fire.
Chicken and ham pie was excellent, so was the triple lamb chops and cooked to perfection. Served with mash or chips and fresh veggies.
My only gripe would be that the meals were too big and one meal would have done two of us and the dog. Prices were reasonable, toilets were clean. And the dog enjoyed his doggie bag as it was just too much food for us to eat.
The fish and chips eaten by the group on the next table looked really tasty, but again the meal was too big.

“A genuine warm , welcoming country inn in the Lakes”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2011

Stayed at this hotel during the Xmas break, picked it because of location in the Lakes, and it took our border collie. The welcome was genuinely warm from Andrew and his staff. The room was warm, comfortable (big bed), clean , and had good storeage. The ensuite shower room was functional , and there was plenty of storeage for our clothes. The breakfast was great for long days in the mountains, and the food in the evening was excellent - tasty, lots of it. There is a lovely mix of tourists , and locals, who visit the bar on a daily basis. We were fortunate to be there for "fish & chip night" on a wednesday- superb. Also try the steak & ale pie - a winner.

“Fanatastic Food, Really helpful staff A +++++”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2010

This pub is typical country pub with excellent reasonably priced food. The staff are extremely helpful, give you a warm welcome and will bend over backwards to accommodate your needs. We have eaten in many nearby places and this place really stands out. Would definitely return and have recommended to friends. Absolutely fantastic location especially in the summer sitting by the stream.

“Time warp 1970s decor awfull food”

Well on arriving we enquired if it was possible to dine on a busy saturday night, we were told that my wife, ten year old son would be able to sit in the bar area, then told "sorry" that table is booked so please follow me, we followed through various room to a overflow dining room with a sumptuous {not} guest house dining room,.
We were so far amused and happy with this fawlty towers style of approach. Then !!!
the food :(
starters, the prawns were off in the rollmop, smoked salmon and prawns starter, not even cold water prawns but cheap rubbery and well out of date far east items, the garlic mushrooms, served in a horrible bowl
s were poor quality and tasteless.
Main courses the posh fish and chips were swimmning in oil, the chips were frozen, greasy and the fish rancid, mushy peas were out of a tin and the best part of the dish. The Lamb casserole again in same awful bowl as the mushrooms was warm indistinguishable and quite disgusting, the vegtables had been pre cooked and microwaved again a terrible disspointment. At this point we bailed ship and will never return, be very carefull if you choose this place we feel they dont care if people return as there is an never ending new supply of customers in this beautifull area. There are however many fantastic quality places very nearby
