I've just returned from a break at Powe House and have to say it's one of the best places I've stayed. The owners are very friendly and can't do enough for you. They take the time to get to know the guests and make you feel very at home. The house itself is beautiful and the room was gorgeous. I stayed in the downstairs room which had a lovely view over the garden towards Skiddaw. The room was spotlessly clean with nice contemporary decor, Freeview TV and tea and coffee that was replenished every day. There was a spotless, modern bathroom ensuite with fluffy towels, heated towel rail and L'Occitane toilettries - a nice hot soak with those after a day's walking was perfect!

The breakfasts are excellent and very filling with a good choice and the location is perfect. A nice quiet village but just a 15-20 minutes stroll walk away from Keswick down a popular footpath. Perfect solution to struggling to park in busy Keswick - leave the car at the guest house. Plus they had ample parking - even I managed to park up fine and that's saying something! :o)

All in all an excellent B&B. The worst bit was having to leave but I'll definitely be going back. A real gem!

Big thank you to Andrew and Helen for a lovely short break, everything was just perfect.
Our room(front of the house) was large, with plenty of cupboard space, a very comfortable bed and a well appointed bathroom. The breakfast was very good, with a good choice of friut, fruit juice and cereal, plus any combination of a cooked breakfast that you require(If you are walking any distance, don`t let your eyes rule your stomach- you might regret it later in the day!!)
We can recommend the FARMERS INN(directions in room information). The place has re-opened, after been shut for some time. There seemed to be plenty of people using it(busy after 7pm). Can recommend the scampi and the curry of the day- very good portions.
Powe House will be the first port of call, when we return to the the lakes!! Great place, in a Great part of the country.

We stayed here for four nights and i can say it is one of the best B & B's we have stayed in. We stayed in room 2 which has fantastic views over Skiddaw. The room was clean, comfortable and spacious. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom contained a bath and shower, ideal after those long mountain walks! The bathroom contained L'Occitane toiletries and radox bubble bath, which i thought was a nice touch. Tea/Coffee/hot chocolate and biscuits in room which were topped up each day.
Breakfasts were always fresh with a good choice and the host's were always happy to accommodate, even remembering the ketchup! Great attention to detail.
The location is ideal for an evening walk to Derwent water marina or Keswick or if your legs ache just down the road is a good pub -The Farmers, which does good quality pub grub. We also liked the Derwent Lodge again only a 5-10 mins walk from the B & B.
The hosts have taken a lot of time and effort into making the B & B a real home from home and deserve the Gold award - a real gem.
In relation to 'the smell of milk' in the room, it is the wood/wardrobe and nothing else and once you have your walking boots in there the smell disappears!
Thank you for a lovely break , we hope to return soon.

We stayed here during the walking festival in Keswick and were very pleased with this B&B. I have to say that we wondered what the slight smell in our room was - now I have read the last review I guess I now know! Nevertheless everywhere is immaculately clean, and we were very happy here. We received a very friendly welcome, and were very pleased with our room. The owners are extremley friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent and certainly set us up for the day.

The location worked really well for us...we were able to walk straight onto the fells from the B&B , and were up the top of Catbells by 11.00 am having only used our feet to transport us! You can walk easily into Keswick on a very well made path, so the car is not an essential accessory.

We went to the local pub which has some new owners for a very pleasant inexpensive meal, and had a very good meal at Morrell's. We were able also to go and listen to Chris Bonnington at the Theatre on the Lake which made a great start to our final evening out.

So we would definitely head back to Powe House. Having stayed at B&Bs the world over this is a very high standard and a very good Keswick base.

Thank you for your lovely review. We work very hard to try to ensure that everyone has a great stay.
We just wanted to let you know that, as we mentioned in response to the previous review, the smell that you mentioned in your room is in fact the oil used on our brand new solid oak furniture. We certainly would not let out a room that was not totally clean.

We spent a three night break at this B&B after we read previous reviews on tripadvisor. We usually stay in four star hotels so were a little concerned we would find a B&B too basic. We were delighted with the B+B, excellent parking, a warm welcome, a beautiful bedroom a little spoilt by the lingering smell of spilt milk from a previous occupancy.
Still would recommend this one.

We were very surprised and incredibly disappointed by the comment relating to spilt milk.
We pride ourselves on the cleanliness and work very hard at keeping the rooms 'as new' for each and every guest.

It is a shame that the first we were aware of a problem is several days later via Trip Advisor, as we would have made every effort to deal with this immediately it was brought to our attention.

Despite thoroughly checking the room to ensure that this does not affect future guests, we have found no evidence of a spillage. We actually believe that the smell was that of the oil that was applied to our new oak furniture.
