“Great New Year Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

I stayed 3 nights over the New Year holiday.
The welcome was first class and the hospitality shown by Russell & Marie is perfect. They run a very friendly and efficient establishment which I cannot recommend highly enough.
We had a room at the front (with a great view) which is a little tight when moving around the bed due to the sloping ceiling, but it was spotlessly clean, the furniture was new and the bed very comfortable. For once my wife was able to sit at the dressing table and use the hair drier. (Something which is for ever over looked in many establishments). The shower room appeared recently re tiled and was well laid out.
There is a guest lounge situated on the first floor which had a beautifully shaped and decorated Christmas Tree in it. This is a very homely and Russell & Marie operate a very reasonably priced drinks service.
The breakfast and the accompanying service was excellent. There was a good choice of cereals and fruit followed by a perfectly presented and cooked breakfast. We are Vegetarians and on each of the 3 mornings Russell cooked a different version of a potato rosti style potato dish to accompany the perfectly poached eggs, tomatoes and mushrooms.
This is a first class establishment and will be my first choice for any stay in the Lakes.

“Our third excellent stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

This was our third trip to Keswick over New Year 2011 and our third stay in the Edwardene with Marie and Russ. We keep going back because we are made to feel welcome every time we stay.
This is a large, lakeland slate building (originally two houses) and looks fantastic from the outside. Inside the property is beautifully decorated with serene, calming colours, and after walking the hills all day, is always warm and cosy!
Ok, the bedrooms aren't huge, but are more than big enough for us and all our clothes, and are always clean and extremely comfortable. There's more than enough to do in and around Keswick anyway, so you won't be sitting in your room for long.
We normally stay in Linnet (a small shower ensuite), and this time, tried Tansy with a bath (luxury after a muddy walk!). The ensuites are always clean and tidy, and the towels are nice and fluffy.
Breakfasts are fantastic and the full Cumbrian breakfast is excellent - highly recommended. In fact, I would say the breakfasts are a highlight of our stays!
Russ and Marie are great, and look after you really well, even taking our muddy walking gear off us each afternoon to dry in their drying room!
The B&B is a short (5 mins) walk from the Moot Hall in the Square, but this probably suits better as it's a slightly quieter location as you don't see or hear everyone leaving the pubs at closing time.
I know we'll be back to visit again, and have already recommended The Edwardene to friends and family!

“A New Year retreat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

We stayed for 3 nights at the Edwardene Hotel to celebrate New Year, we arrived after a long journey to a very warm welcome from the owner. The room (Heather) was immaculate and very cosy - a small double room with en-suite bathroom with shower over the bath. Everything that we needed was provided in the room (toiletries and even a hair drier).

The breakfast was very filling and delicious, nothing was too much trouble. Even when I asked for items that were not on the menu.

The location was ideal, we were able to walk into the centre of town within five minutes which meant that we could leave our car parked up for the duration of our stay. Although the hotel is located near town, we found the room to be quiet at night.

The owner recommended a number of places to eat and marked them on a map for us. We left our bottle of Champagne in our room and to our delight found that she had chilled it for us before we went out on New Years Eve! (Nothing was ever too much trouble for her).

There are several walks from Keswick town centre which are ideal for all walking abilities - a good website to visit that offers downloadable printable maps in PDF format is http://www.keswick.org/what-to-do/walking-routes

One of the walks that we can recommend is the Keswick to Threlkeld railway path - this walk took us two hours taking in lovely scenery and local history along the way, we finished our walk by visiting the "Horse and Farrier Inn" at Threlkeld that offered excellent meals in a friendly traditional pub atmosphere.

“Even better than before”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 November 2011

This was not my first stay at the Edwardene and I had always been happy with the excellent service and comfort of the rooms on all previous stays. When I checked into my single en-suite room I was pleasantly surprised to see it had been recently refurbished, and had a brand new feeling to it. I had always found the single rooms very comfortable and nicely decorated but now the room had a luxury feel to it and the new shower was just lovely after a days walking/photographing. To be honest, apart from the refurb I'm not sure what the hosts could do to improve things here, everything is always so nice and the food/hospitality is second to none. Still a great place to stay, but now better value than ever. I don't know how they can offer this quality at the price. Well done Russell and Marie.

“Immaculate hotel in convenient location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2011

We stayed at the Edwardene for 2 nights in October and were extremely pleased with the location, quality and service. Due to booking late we were allocated the last available room, 'Myrtle', which was a small double room with a good en-suite shower (quality toiletries provided - even cotton buds!) The rooms had clearly been refurbished recently, to a very high standard, and the cleanliness throughout the hotel was absolutely first class. The hotel stands out as a quality establishment as soon as you view its exterior.Breakfast was lovely and the owners were very welcoming and helpful. The only potential issues for us was that there is limited parking in the road close to the hotel (although the owner happily moved his vehicle to enable us to park opposite, so that we could unload our luggage) so at times it may be dificult to find a space nearby. We were also unable to connect to the Wi-fi (although this could have been a problem with our laptop rather than the hotel!) After arriving home we were telephoned by the owner, as we had left an item of clothing behind in our room, and they kindly parcelled it up and posted it to us. Overall, a relaxed, friendly and highly recommended hotel.
