“A superb boutique resting place! Wonderful in every way!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 March 2011

My boyfriend and I had such a wonderful long weekend staying here for Valentines. Perfectly located, stumbling distance from the pubs in Kewsick. Beautiful views and amazingly comfortable residence. Great value for money. Peter and his partner were very kind and extremely helpful as I'd made a mistake with my reservation. We would certainly stay here again and again and look forward to our next visit. Breakfast was tasty and substantial.

“Great night's sleep and best ever veggie breakfast...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2011

We spent a single night in Lakeside earlier in the month - it was a fantastic stay - short and sweet. Sharon is an extremely welcoming host, and made sure we were well looked after. The rooms were clean, the bed was excellent and we slept really well. The shower was good, but the breakfast takes top prize: as long-term vegetarians, we've tried a lot of veggie breakfasts on our travels, but Arnie's full veggie was the best I've ever had. Beautifully cooked and a good mix of items - stunning views from the dining room - good coffee - couldn't have asked for more. We enjoyed chatting to the other guests, too, who were as happy with their full English as we were with the meat-free! Thanks to Sharon and Arnie for a wonderful stay - we'll be back and absolutely recommend the Lakeside to anyone considering a trip near Keswick, Cockermouth and beautiful West Cumbria.

“Very pleasant stay, wonderful setting and friendly and helpful hosts.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2011

From the moment Sharon opened the front door it was like being welcomed by an old friend. The old house is most gratious and set in a beautiful setting that is very peaceful. We found Sharon and Arnold very helpful and their advice on the general area has been extremely helpful. Thank you very much.

“Not likely to recommend”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2010

Will revisit Lake District but certainly not stay at this B & B again or recommend. Service unsatisfactory. Our stay was over 3 nights. Sharon needlessly unpleasant and overly annoyed over misunderstanding about 1) welcome tea service, 2) use of bathroom - gave impression of being under stress. On the flipside, we did not make a big deal out of the horrendous pipe-knocking noises that went on for sometime directly over our room on our first evening. This should have warranted a price discount for the discomfort and contrary to stated, there was no hair dryer in the room. Didn't feel valued as paying guests. In the process, one forgets about any good things about the place eg nice big soft towels and tranquil, peaceful setting!

Was amazed to receive this and feel it so unjust I must reply.
Mother booked twin en-suite room for her and friend also a double en-suite for daughter who may be coming for all of the stay/part of the stay/ with husband / not with husband - you get the picture?
When Mother arrived it seemed she couldn't manage with her room because it had a shower not bath. She had not specified bath but luckily I had a ground floor room with bath/shower and happily I was able to offer this.
Whilst getting this ready for them I served our usual complimentary tray of cake and tea out on the sunny terrace as they requested so they could enjoy the views. I then carried their luggage downstairs and hung up their half unpacked dresses for them. They seemed delighted. Daughter arrived with hubby after a wedding about midnight the following night. I did not see them. Her Mother had confided that there had been a private medical health problem with daughter and she was here to rest. She did not make it down for breakfast on any morning as I recall and left her room briefly each afternoon to give me sufficient time to service it . Mother and friend had breakfast every morning and were chatty and smiling with me.
On last day I met daughter at check out time and we joked that we hadn't even seen each other during her stay. She told me all about her interesting job as a stunt woman in films. As she was mainly based in Budapest she had bought an appartment there. My final memory of these Guests is of cheery goodbyes, hugs and kisses and the reminder that she would email her address so we could rent out her appartment if we wished.
The bath room situation was remedied immediately. The banging pipes were not mentioned during their stay, (before or after by other guests either )and certainly I cannot offer a discount telepathically if that was what she was after. She did not partake of breakfast or tea service so is not qualified to comment on service. Hair drier is in the drawer she simply has to open drawer to find it. She implied I seemed stressed to her but after 15 years in the business I like to think I was busy and attentive however I challenge any one not to feel stressed at work sometimes. It must be wonderful to be a stress free stunt woman! Perhaps this lady would have been better suited staying at the hotel where the wedding was held. Only £270 per person per night instead of the £65 she paid here.
