“Lovely room, great view!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

We stayed for two nights in the Superior Room and have no complaints. The room was a very good size and clean and had a lovely view of the mountains and Lake Bassenthwaite.

We were going to a wedding at Armathwaite Hall (just up the road) and decided to stay here as it's a much more affordable rate! Sharon was wonderful, ensuring that we had the number of the local taxi driver and also recommending some local restaurants (we went to the Pheasant Inn which is close by, very good food and good size portions).

The breakfasts were fantastic as well in the front room which also looked out onto the lake. Sharon was very friendly without being over the top.

All in all a lovely trip and we will definitely come back again and recommend to others.

Room Tip: If you want a good view go for the superior, if not the rates are slightly cheaper. They also off...

“Absolutely perfect...couldn't ask for more!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011

We stayed here for 2 nights due to going to a wedding nearby.

Sharon was helpful and friendly from our very first contact months ago when we booked. This continued throughout our stay. Was the perfect balance of being attentive without being overbearing.

Room was lovely and clean-hotel standard so couldn't ask for more. Really liked the special touches with hand cream/shower gel/hairdryer/very nice hospitality tray being provided.

Breakfast was gorgeous! Can highly recommend the cooked breakfast (and that is from a quite fussy eater!). The tea and freshly baked mince pie on arrival was a really special touch.

My husband and I are not usually fans of guest houses but this was lovely. Really felt very welcome and at ease. Had a very relaxing first night in the lounge (our previous experiences have left us sat in our room as not felt comfortable).

For the price we paid, I cannot recommend this highly enough!

“better than local hotels”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

We were attending a wedding nearby and needed to be able to check in earlier, we rang to see if this was at all possible, and were very happy with Sharons accomodating manner, she prepared our room first that morning so we could use the facilities early. How kind. We found the guest house welcoming and very warm clean and comfortable. Our room had a wonderful lake view. The bed was so comfortable and lovely white cotton sheets. Breakfast was a master-piece, great choice, size of breakfast and extremely hot and cooked to order, with coffee or tea freshly made. We found parking excellent and only 10 minutes walk away is the Pheasant hotel and resturant, we ate at the Pheasant and that was really nice. All in all we really would recommend this Guest house, we will definately return.

Room Tip: Speak with Sharon, she is really helpful.

“Lovely Lakeside!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 October 2011

I stayed at Lakeside Country House last night and was really impressed with everything about it. The great service started from the time I rang about a room and Sharon's confirmation emails were prompt and friendly. I was really pleased they were able to accomodate me as I was only staying for one night and a two-night minimum often applies. I was attending a wedding at the Castle Inn and wanted a guest house nearby. I'm so glad I chose Lakeside.

I arrived just before 7pm and was shown to my room (number 7). The room was beautifully decorated and was warm - just what I needed after a long, cold drive. The bed was so comfy i'm not sure how I managed to drag myself out of it. Bathroom was lovely and clean (it's the first place I check when I stay anywhere) and had towels, flannels, shower gel provided. There was a tea tray with biscuits and even a hot water bottle in the wardrobe for anyone who might need one. The room had a flat screen tv but I didn't watch it.

Sharon helpfully explained where the wedding venue was and suggested that I drive there (5 minutes) and get a taxi back if need be, because it would only be a 30 minute walk around the lake to get the car in the morning. In the end I drove back to the guesthouse but it would have been a lovely walk as the views are stunning!

One tip I have would be to try and avoid the 'local' taxis of you can. This is only because of the potential cost. I was quoted £25 for a 3-5 minute 1.7mile journey, because the nearest firm was based in Keswick, 7-8 miles away.

Breakfast was incredible: choice of cereals, fruits, yogurts and juice. Tea or coffee and toast and preserves were then brought to me. I ordered the Full Cumbrian which was eggs, bacon, sausage, tomato, mushrooms, beans and fried bread. It was one of the best breakfasts i've had anywhere. Had I not wanted the full breakfast I could have had a continental breakfast, european breakfast, eggs on toast, sausage sandwich, bacon sandwich or anything else that I wanted.

Before I left Sharon even recommended some places nearby to go walking and shared some of her local knowledge.

Lovely stay and would highly recommend.

“Avoid the Crowds - No Parking Problems”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

We recently stayed here for five nights and used it as a basis to explore the Lakes District and thorougly enjoyed our stay. The big advantage for us was the easy parking and quietness as it is outside any of the major Lake towns but with easy access to Keswick by car. It is beautifully situated near Lake Bassenthwaite and the second floor rooms have over the lake to nearby mountains. Some good walks nearby and an excellent inn with good about 5 minutes walk away.

Room Tip: The upstairs rooms have a more expansive view over the lake but all rooms in this Edwardian house ar...
