I stayed at Lakeside Country House last night and was really impressed with everything about it. The great service started from the time I rang about a room and Sharon's confirmation emails were prompt and friendly. I was really pleased they were able to accomodate me as I was only staying for one night and a two-night minimum often applies. I was attending a wedding at the Castle Inn and wanted a guest house nearby. I'm so glad I chose Lakeside.
I arrived just before 7pm and was shown to my room (number 7). The room was beautifully decorated and was warm - just what I needed after a long, cold drive. The bed was so comfy i'm not sure how I managed to drag myself out of it. Bathroom was lovely and clean (it's the first place I check when I stay anywhere) and had towels, flannels, shower gel provided. There was a tea tray with biscuits and even a hot water bottle in the wardrobe for anyone who might need one. The room had a flat screen tv but I didn't watch it.
Sharon helpfully explained where the wedding venue was and suggested that I drive there (5 minutes) and get a taxi back if need be, because it would only be a 30 minute walk around the lake to get the car in the morning. In the end I drove back to the guesthouse but it would have been a lovely walk as the views are stunning!
One tip I have would be to try and avoid the 'local' taxis of you can. This is only because of the potential cost. I was quoted £25 for a 3-5 minute 1.7mile journey, because the nearest firm was based in Keswick, 7-8 miles away.
Breakfast was incredible: choice of cereals, fruits, yogurts and juice. Tea or coffee and toast and preserves were then brought to me. I ordered the Full Cumbrian which was eggs, bacon, sausage, tomato, mushrooms, beans and fried bread. It was one of the best breakfasts i've had anywhere. Had I not wanted the full breakfast I could have had a continental breakfast, european breakfast, eggs on toast, sausage sandwich, bacon sandwich or anything else that I wanted.
Before I left Sharon even recommended some places nearby to go walking and shared some of her local knowledge.
Lovely stay and would highly recommend.
